Ep. 01 PART TWO: Innocent People on Death Row/Criminal Justice System/Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson and the Innocence Project

I'm back and *on the mend* to thriving y'all!! This time on the topic of the Innocence Project with incarceration rates of black and brown people who are innocent and have, or currently,  serving time on death row! It will forever mind, blow how after everything we have been through the amount of us serving time for something we didn't do, compared to our white counterparts astonishes me. This is part two, of the four part episode on Just Mercy, Bryan Stevenson, and prison reform issues relating to the black community. This issue is important to me, because the prison system on the inside and the way they treat prisoners, especially black ones, on a day to day basis is extremely cruel and inhumane in the US, but what's worse is the years they won't get back, the memories and families they missed out on, the inmate sexual and physical violence that happens on a frequent basis (reported or not) to young adults and children who happen to be serving an adult sentence, is beyond saddening to me. Black and brown people should be in prison for something they actually committed, not for something they didn't do, and we most definitely should not be put in there because of the racial bias, discrimination, faulty accusations, or anything having to do with the stereotype or the color of our skin. If you havn't had the chance yet, go read Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson and check out the Innocence Project's page. The point of this episode is to spread the awareness and hopefully, some of my listeners can spread the awareness as well so that the more it's talked about, the more the issue will be addressed than it already is! Also, sorry for the sound quality, the volume on the mic was a little bit turned up high, so you could probably hear every little noise including my swallowing cause my throat was dry, sorry about that, also I am very tired and just getting over some depression so I am a little off my game but we gone get through it! Thank yall so much for tuning in, and I can't wait to show yall part 3 of my episode later this week! I will post updates on my instagram page which is @black_ontop_podcast or the Black On Top Podcast. If any of you guys have any questions or concerns, feel free to send me an email at the podcast email which is TheBlackOnTopPod@gmial.com, or DM me on my instagram. It means a lot to me yall took the time to listen to this! I'll try to be more consistent in cutting down the length of the episodes, I know most people who listen to this are on the college-early adulthood side, so too long isn't too good. Again, I am totally new to this and there will be a lot of mistakes and it'll be ugly at first, but we gone get there it will be way better in the future, I promise. Below are the links to my sources. See yall later this week! EP. 01 PART ONE: Criminal Justice System / Prison Reform and "Just Mercy" By Bryan Stevenson

Hey guys! The first official episode of the podcast is finally here!! *cue celebratory dance* So this is a very large topic I am going to be talking about, it is so large, that I have to break it down into 4 part episodes! Yeah I know that's like a lot, but each individual episode is going to be talking about very important topics pertaining to the flawed justice system pertaining to the black community and speaking on a range of topics, such as mass incarceration, juveniles sent to life in prison without any chance of parole especially of our black youth, the system declaring war on people with substance abuse, and innocent people on death row. This particular episode, part one, will be going into depth on juveniles sent to life in prison without any chance of parole, Trina Garnett and her tragic case, and other topics that will be mentioned in the episode. I feel called on, and I truly feel it in my heart to speak on these darker, but necessary topics to of course inform/educate the black community and really spread awareness of the flawed justice system through one of my role models (God first of course), law professor, lawyer, and activist, Bryan Stevenson and his self written book "Just Mercy". It is a phenomenal book and is an excellent aid to the topics I will be discussing. WARNING: THIS HAS EXPLICIT, GRAPHIC, AND TRIGGERING CONTENT THAT IS TALKED ABOUT and don't say I didn't warn y'all because I say it several times in the episode. I don't want to spoil the entire thing on here, so go listen to it right now! Thank you for the few supporters I have as of now haha, and hopefully more to come! Still learning!
