Shift Catches Up With Raelene Castle

Shift teamies Tiki and Greer jump on the mics to kōrero with the new CEO of Sport New Zealand Ihi Aotearoa, Raelene Castle.  At Shift we are big believers in the positive benefits that being active has on wellbeing, so we were excited to check in with the new CEO, hear her thoughts on physical activity, and kōrero some of the issues and opportunities that Shift is super passionate about! Raelene Castle has worked both in Aotearoa New Zealand and Australia as a high profile sport executive. Her appointment at Sport New Zealand Ihi Aotearoa marks the first time that a woman has held this top position at the organisation. Beyond her career in sport administration Raelene has played tennis, netball and lawn bowls at a representative level and is a self-proclaimed lover of sport.  ~~~ During the episode we mentioned the IUHPE World Conference on Health Promotion held in Rotorua in 2019. Inclusivity and Encouragement with Hayam Elshirbiny

As-salamu alaykum listeners!  Welcome back. Join Solinda, your amazing host for this week's episode, as she speaks with her guest Hayam Elshirbiny from Egypt. They kōrero about jumping into life's opportunities, creating inclusive spaces for young women to play basketball in Cairo, and the wellbeing benefits of keeping active in a way that suits you.  Hayam is an incredible woman from Cairo, Egypt who is dedicated to empowering young girls in her city by teaching them to play basketball. Since 2014 she has been doing this through her programme Girl Power. A retired professional basketball player herself, Hayam played basketball for 20 years and represented Egypt on a national level. She has served on the governing committee for the sport and supervised several basketball teams. Super Powerful Women with Carmen "Piña" Pozo

¡Hola listeners! The young woman hosting this week's episode is the fabulous Caitlin! Join Caitlin for a thoughtful and fun kōrero with her enigmatic guest Carmen "Piña" Pozo from Bolivia. Together they delve into the implications of gender within journalism and sport, discuss success in male dominated industries, and consider how media and sport can be tools for social change in Bolivia and beyond. Piña is a sport journalist in La Paz, Bolivia. She co-founder of a sports magazine and a soccer academy for girls, both called Las Súper Poderosas ("Super powerful women"). As one of the first and most recognised female sports journalist in Bolivia, Piña made waves at the start of her career in the 1990s. Today she continues to break down gender stereotypes in sport, especially in soccer. During the pandemic Las Súper Poderosas soccer academy has been training girls online and while also working to enable those without internet access to participate.
