The Conversation Collective
As-salamu alaykum listeners! Welcome back. Join Solinda, your amazing host for this week's episode, as she speaks with her guest Hayam Elshirbiny from Egypt. They kōrero about jumping into life's opportunities, creating inclusive spaces for young women to play basketball in Cairo, and the wellbeing benefits of keeping active in a way that suits you. Hayam is an incredible woman from Cairo, Egypt who is dedicated to empowering young girls in her city by teaching them to play basketball. Since 2014 she has been doing this through her programme Girl Power. A retired professional basketball player herself, Hayam played basketball for 20 years and represented Egypt on a national level. She has served on the governing committee for the sport and supervised several basketball teams. These days Hayam can be found training for ultramarathons and is now a founding member of Egypt's first trail running team, Wadi Ibex.
