The Day After Church – Episode 4: Covenants and Marriage

Podcast Notes â€" The Day After Church Podcast Series: Family: Covenant Relationships Episode: Week 1 â€" Husbands and Wives: The Covenant of Harmony Episode Summary In this episode of The Day After Church Podcast, Pastor Craig unpacks the launch of our new series, Family: Covenant Relationships. Week 1 focused on Husbands and Wives â€" The Covenant of Harmony. We explored what it really means to live in covenantâ€"not contractâ€"and why intimacy is at the heart of every covenant relationship. Marriage isn’t just a legal agreement; it’s a God-designed reflection of Christ and His church. Listener Question: What is Covenant? Definition: Covenant (n.): a binding and enduring agreement, sealed with promise, that creates relationship and responsibility. * A contract is based on performance: “If you do your part, I’ll do mine.†* A covenant is based on promise: “Even if you don’t, I will.†Key Scriptures (NLT) * John 17:3 â€" “And this is the way to have eternal lifeâ€"to know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one You sent to earth.†* Genesis 4:1 â€" “Now Adam had sexual relations with his wife, Eve, and she became pregnant.†(Older translations: “Adam knew Eve.â€) * Genesis 2:24 â€" “This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.†* Luke 22:20 â€" “This cup is the new covenant between God and His peopleâ€"an agreement confirmed with my blood, which is poured out as a sacrifice for you.†* Ephesians 5:25, 31â€"32 â€" “For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up His life for her… This is a great mystery, but it is an illustration of the way Christ and the church are one.†Main Points 1. Intimacy is God’s language of life. (John 17:3) 2. Intimacy is inherent to covenant, but it requires intentionality. 3. Marriage was God’s idea, not man’s invention. (Genesis 2:24) 4. Contracts are built on performance; covenants are built on promise. (Luke 22:20) 5. Marriage is God’s sermon to the world. (Ephesians 5:25, 31â€"32) 6. Harmony isn’t samenessâ€"it’s difference working together. 7. Marriage is the daily classroom of covenant love. (Hebrews 13:4) Power Phrases * “Intimacy is God’s language of life.†* “Covenant without intimacy is just a contract dressed up.†* “Contracts are built on performance. Covenants are built on promise.†* “Your marriage is God’s sermon to the world.†* “Harmony isn’t samenessâ€"it’s difference working together.†* “Intimacy isn’t automaticâ€"it’s intentional.†Reflection Questions 1. How would you describe your current intimacy with God? How does that affect your other relationships? 2. Where do you need to be more intentional in your marriage (or future marriage)? 3. In what ways have you slipped into “contract thinking†in relationshipsâ€"and how can you shift back to “covenant thinkingâ€? 4. If your marriage is a sermon, what is it preaching right now? 5. How can you embrace differences in your relationships as part of God’s design for harmony? Takeaway Thought Marriage is not a contractâ€"it’s a covenant. When anchored in God, covenant intimacy produces life and reflects Christ’s love to the world.

The Day After Church – Episode 3: His Story Your Story

The Day After Church Podcast: Your Story Series Recap: Your Story â€" Written in His Blood, Told by Your Words This Week: The Understated In This Week’s Day After Church Podcast… In this episode, we close out the Your Story series with a focus on humility. Whether you joined us at Light Christian Center or another church in your city, the reminder is the same: your story matters most when it points to Jesus. This week’s conversation unpacks how pride can shift the spotlight toward us, but humility ensures the story stays centered on Him. Yesterday’s Message in Review This past Sunday, we wrapped up our Your Story series with Week 4: The Understated â€" Humility: The Perspective That Keeps the Story His. Throughout this series, we’ve been reminded of the incredible truth found in Revelation 12:11 (NLT): “And they have defeated him by the blood of the Lamb and by their testimony. And they did not love their lives so much that they were afraid to die.†Your past, your testimony, and your willingness to share what God has done â€" all of it is part of how the enemy is defeated and how the story of Jesus is made visible in your life. This week’s focus was on humility. When pride takes the pen, the story becomes ours. But when humility holds the pen, the story remains His. Key Takeaways from the Series 1. The Power of Your Past God doesn’t waste what you’ve walked through. Your past becomes a platform for His grace. 2. There Can Be No Doubt Our faith isn’t blind. The cross and the resurrection leave no doubt about His love and His power. 3. The Undoing Jesus undoes shame, guilt, and brokenness â€" rewriting our story with redemption. 4. The Understated True testimony is marked by humility. The story is not about us but about the Savior who is writing it through us. Why This Matters for You No matter what church you were at yesterday, the message is the same: Your story matters, but it matters most when it points to Jesus. When you share your testimony, you’re not just telling people what happened to you â€" you’re showing them who He is. Humility keeps us from editing the story for our own glory and reminds us that God’s grace is the headline. This Week’s Challenge Take a moment to reflect: * Where has pride tempted me to make the story about me? * Where can I step back and let Jesus be the center of the narrative? * Who in my world needs to hear my testimony this week? Write it down. Share it. Live it. Final Word Your story is powerful not because of who you are but because of whose you are. Yesterday may have been Sunday, but today is where the story gets lived out. Let’s keep walking in humility and telling the world: It’s not my story, it’s His story through me. Subscribe to the Day After Church Podcast for weekly reflections like this. Share it with a friend who needs encouragement to see their story through the lens of Jesus. The Day After Church – Episode 2: Steps of Purpose

Knowing and living out our purpose is crucial for a fulfilling and meaningful life. The Bible provides us with a wealth of guidance and motivation for discovering and confidently pursuing our purpose. Here are some key biblical teachings that can help us to understand and walk out our purpose with confidence in our future: 1. We are created for a purpose: The Bible teaches that we are each created for a specific purpose by a loving and sovereign God (Psalm 139:13-16). This means that we each have unique talents, abilities, and gifts that are designed to fulfill a specific role in God’s kingdom. 2. God has a plan for our lives: The Bible promises that God has a plan for each of our lives, a plan to give us hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). We can trust that God’s plan is good and that it will lead us to the fullness of life that he desires for us. 3. We can walk in confidence: The Bible teaches that we can have confidence in our future because God is with us always (Deuteronomy 31:8). We can trust that God will guide us, protect us, and provide for us as we pursue our purpose. 4. Our purpose is tied to serving others: The Bible teaches that our purpose is tied to serving others and bringing glory to God (Ephesians 2:10). We can find great joy and fulfillment in knowing that our purpose involves making a positive impact in the lives of those around us. 5. The Holy Spirit guides us: The Bible teaches that the Holy Spirit is given to us to guide us and empower us to fulfill our purpose (John 14:26). We can rely on the Holy Spirit to lead us and give us the wisdom and strength we need to walk out our purpose with confidence. In conclusion, the Bible provides us with powerful motivation for knowing and living out our purpose with confidence in our future. By meditating on these biblical truths, we can gain the clarity and courage we need to pursue our purpose with confidence and joy.

The Day After Church – Episode 1: Future Confidence

Hello everyone! Today, I wanted to talk about the confidence that we can gain through our faith in Christ. Many of us struggle with self-doubt and insecurity, but when we place our trust in God and His plan for our lives, we can find a deep sense of peace and confidence. The Bible tells us that we are fearfully and wonderfully made, and that God has a purpose for each and every one of us. This knowledge can give us the confidence to pursue our dreams and to face challenges with courage. In addition, when we rely on God's strength and not our own, we can find the courage to take risks and step out of our comfort zones. We can trust that He will be with us, guiding and supporting us, no matter what happens. Another source of confidence through our faith in Christ is the assurance of salvation that we have through His death and resurrection. Knowing that we have eternal life in heaven and that our sins are forgiven can give us a sense of security and peace that is unmatched by anything else in this world. In short, our confidence in Christ can give us the strength, courage, and assurance we need to navigate this life with hope and purpose. I encourage you to place your trust in Him and see how it can change your life. Thanks for listening!
