Descripción

How can slowness, unpredictability, and material practice intersect with ideas of degrowth? Through conversation and reflection, we looked at how artistic processes can resist acceleration and open space for alternative ways of working, noticing, and making. Alexandra Bittarová is a student at HDK-Valand Master’s programme in Fine Arts. She is an artist working with process-based sculpture. Her practice explores duration and instability as a strategy. This episode’s guest is Alexandra Papademetriou, a Gothenburg-based artist, researcher, and designer whose work operates within the overlap of ecological inquiry and artistic practice. She investigates how creative processes can act as experimental sites for social and environmental shifts. The Dialogues Podcast Project is a podcast series produced by students from the Master of Fine Arts (MFA) programme at the HDK-Valand Academy – Art and Design, University of Gothenburg, and published by K103 Gothenburg Student Radio.

episode Catalina Gómez with Mick Wilson artwork

Catalina Gómez with Mick Wilson

Artist and educator Catalina Gómez explores the gap between the Colombian Andes and Nordic context, examining how student mobility transforms understandings of art, knowledge, and identity across cultures. This episode features a dialogue fragment with Professor Mick Wilson—Director of Doctoral Studies at HDK-Valand (University of Gothenburg) and co-chair of the Centre for Art and the Political Imaginary—reflecting on how an early encounter with art created a "space of exception" beyond known limits. This dialogue is a shared reflective practice that invites you to join, using Wilson’s story and Gomez’s own as departure points to consider your formative aesthetic experiences and how they shaped your relation to art, learning, and possibility. Beauty and self- care routines can offer comfort, intimacy and a sense of control, but they also carry silent pressures and expectations on how we should look, feel and improve. Maria del Mar is a visual artist currently a student at HDK Valand's master in Fine Arts, whose work researches rituals, stillness and the everyday objects that shape our daily lives. episode Shunda Wan with Nina Mangalanayagam artwork

Shunda Wan with Nina Mangalanayagam

Drawn from a one-hour conversation with artist Nina Mangalanayagam, this podcast collects excerpts on narration, self-positioning, passing, the everyday performance of identity, and more. Nina Mangalanayagam is an artist, researcher, and teacher at HDK-Valand, who works with photography and film. To quote from her website, “[she] explores themes of belonging and hybridity, often using a semi-autobiographical approach. Her research analyses the shifting points of identification she experiences as a mixed heritage subject, to explore the dichotomy of black and white notions of identity.” I’m Shunda Wan. I moved from China to Sweden almost three years ago. I work as a line cook and study in the MFA program at HDK-Valand. My research looks at re-enactment—redoing fellow immigrants’ lived experiences together with them—as a way to explore immigrant life in Sweden and to situate myself through and within what anthropologist Biao Xiang calls the “nearby,” the spacial, social, and cultural sphere around us. ———— For Nina’s works, please visit her website https://www.ninamanga.com/ [https://www.ninamanga.com/] The Dialogues Podcast Project is a podcast series produced by students from the Master of Fine Arts (MFA) programme at the HDK-Valand Academy – Art and Design, University of Gothenburg, and published by K103 Gothenburg Student Radio.
