Dealing With The Unexpected - Terrorism and The Events Industry

Business as usual in the events industry is dealing with challenges, adapting to change and very often coping with the unexpected, especially on-site. While we always try and look beyond the obvious to minimise risk in every project, planning for the unexpected with comprehensive crisis management plans has never been more important in the global events industry - particularly against the backdrop of high profile terror incidents. In this podcast, we hear from Right Angle Event's Steve Gaskin - a former DCI in the Metropolitan Police and someone with firm views on how prepared the Events industry is when it comes to terrorism. We also hear from people on the TTA staff, whose lives have been touched by terrorist attacks.

Plus an events expert does some future gazing. www.tta.live twitter.com/TheTurnerAgency/ www.linkedin.com/company/the-turner-agency/ www.facebook.com/TTAevents/ Partial Transcript of the show below: Presenter: “Hello and welcome to episode two of The Events Podcast with the Turner Agency. This podcast is going to look at the trends and issues affecting the events world and will also keep you up to date with our work and the people we're proud to work with. First, remember to subscribe to the podcast via iTunes and SoundCloud and give us a rating so more people get to know about the podcast. Also keep an eye on our social media feeds for news about what's coming up in forthcoming episodes. You may remember back in episode 1 we were at the Cvent Connect Europe Conference held in London. Whilst there I caught up with Johannes Fahl. He's Global Congress and Engagement Strategy Manager at a large global healthcare company and has worked with The Turner Agency for over seven years. We’re going to hear more from Johannes later, - including his advice to those new to the events industry - but something he told me neatly tees up the main theme of this podcast” Johannes Fahl: “From a technology standpoint I believe that we will come to a point where technology will help us to simplify processes with our delegates. Just to have it streamlined will make life really easy for everyone. Not only for us with planning and projects but also for the delegates when they're on site.” “Yes, we're going to look at how the need for simplification and streamlining is being met in the form of Strategic Meeting Management Technology. I've been speaking to a couple of members of the Turner Agency team, Business Development Director Dominic Bemrose and Project Manager Abbie Hanton. They reflected on their experience with the software and what it means for them and their clients.” Abbie Hanton: “We have just returned from an event which took place in London. We had about 400 people at the event and the client really wanted to allow all of the attendees to be able to have all of the content in the palm of their hand. So we decided to use the app platform and we were able to integrate it directly with the registration site. This meant it was a really smooth experience for all of the delegates and we really enjoyed working on it. They really wanted to make all of the materials for the event more relevant to the individual so all of the participants had a really personal tailored user experience. When the delegates arrived on site we printed there badge for them and then weassisted them in downloading the app there and then. They then had their personalised agenda to hand, they had all of their meeting materials and all of their floor plans . They were able to navigate around the meeting with complete ease. There was absolutely no print materials. It was completely interactive"
