Hand Me The Mirror // Quita Coleman // Hidden Figures

In this message, "Hand Me the Mirror," we are invited to stop tracking everyone else and honestly ask: where am I with God? Rooted in the account of the women at the cross in Matthew 27:54–56 and the resurrection encounter in John 20:11–16, this message traces the devotion of Mary Magdalene from the crucifixion to the empty tomb. We are reminded that Mary's story doesn't begin at the tomb but at her encounter with Jesus, the one who cast out seven demons and gave her a new name, a new identity defined not by her past but by the One who set her free. Drawing from Matthew 28:8–9, we see that true devotion is not measured by church attendance, Christian language, or worship playlists, but by what stays near Jesus when the cost is real. The cross was lonely, but it was not abandoned, and the Gospel writers were intentional in highlighting that the women remained. This message closes with a simple, searching prayer: God, hand me the mirror. Show me where devotion has become transactional, where I've drifted from nearness, and whether, when the crowd leaves and the music stops, I can still be found near You, like Mary. episode 4 Practices of Problem Solvers // Vernon Gordon // Hidden Figures artwork

4 Practices of Problem Solvers // Vernon Gordon // Hidden Figures

In this message, "4 Practices of Problem Solvers," we explore what it looks like to respond to life's challenges with the wisdom, faith, and courage that God provides. Rooted in Judges 4:1–14, 23–24, we meet Deborah, a wife, prophet, judge, and military leader who served as a mother to Israel for forty years, and we discover that the greatest threat to our beliefs is not the people we face but the boxes we build. Those boxes are dangerous because they limit us to a previous season's obedience, and when our vision is no longer bigger than our boundaries, we begin saying no to God. Through Deborah's example, we learn four practices that every problem solver needs: God's presence, a plan, people, and patience. Problems require us to invite God in first, because hearing from God and hearing something that merely sounds spiritual are not the same thing, and it is dangerous to seek a way out of seasons we never invited Him into. When God does respond, He doesn't just give promises, He gives plans, and those plans require us to move from "this" to "there." We are also reminded that we were not created to collect glory, and that we must first be delivered from pride before we can be delivered from bondage. And finally, we are called to stay steady, because Judges 4:24 reminds us that victory came "stronger and stronger, until," and everything changes when a mothering figure has the patience to remain. episode Pardon The Interruption // Vernon Gordon // Hidden Figures artwork

Pardon The Interruption // Vernon Gordon // Hidden Figures

In this message, "Pardon The Interruption," we explore how the voices, courage, and callings of women in scripture have been overlooked, and what it looks like to step forward anyway. Rooted in Numbers 27:1–11, we meet the daughters of Zelophehad, women with no male advocate and no formal invitation, who walked into the tent of meeting and interrupted an entire system to claim what was rightfully theirs. Drawing from Luke 8:1–3, Acts 16:12–15, and Esther 4:15–16, we see how Lydia, the women who supported Jesus' ministry, and Esther each used their influence, resources, and courage to start something that outlasted them. We live in a culture consumed with waiting for an invitation, but some breakthroughs do not come through invitation, it comes through interruption. The sermon lands on three mindsets to carry forward: I am a starter, whose job is not to make people convinced but to make people consider; I live with legacy in mind, because what courage gave the daughters of Zelophehad in verse 7, their courage gave to others in verse 8; and I carry a calling, because you do not always need God's voice to know God's vision.
