julia's postpartum experience
hi honeys, it’s Julia. 🖤 today i share how my postpartum experience unfolded - an honest reflection on what happens when our bodies, the nervous system, and identity are asked to change all at once.
i talk about the beautiful journey that was my pregnancy, and the unexpected contrast of postpartum - where the transition felt abrupt, disorienting, and emotionally unfamiliar.
postpartum is a whole-body event shaped by hormone withdrawal, nervous system shock, sleep deprivation, and the sudden loss of a shared body. i reflect on the unexpected moments of disconnection post-birth, the guilt that comes when bonding is not immediate, and the pressure placed on mothers to perform joy while recovering from an enormous physiological and psychological shift. my goal is to help you reframe such experiences, and emphasize that delayed bonding is not a failure of love, but a nervous system needing time to adapt.
over time, connection arrived through regulation, support, and moments of recognition that allowed safety to return to my body. this episode serves as a reminder that motherhood does not begin in a single feeling or moment, but through gradual integration. there is no correct way to enter the season that is postpartum, only the way that unfolds within your own body.
if this story resonates, know that you are not alone. postpartum is not a singular story - it is many. and each one is valid.
this episode includes discussion of postpartum emotional distress, dissociation, anxiety, and early bonding challenges. please listen with care, pause when needed, and tend to your nervous system as you move through it. if this episode brings anything heavy to the surface, reaching out to a trusted support person or a postpartum mental health professional may be helpful.
new episodes every week. 🖤
