Developed in the 4th century by the Council of Nicaea (325 AD) and revised by the Council of Constantinople (381 AD), it was created to oppose heresies like Arianism that denied the full divinity of Jesus. * * Trinity: It affirms belief in one God who exists as three co-equal persons: the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit. * * Divinity of Jesus: It asserts that Jesus is "God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God," fully divine and "of one Being with the Father". * * Incarnation: It details Jesus's life, including his birth from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, his crucifixion, death, resurrection, and ascension. * * Holy Spirit: It describes the Holy Spirit as "the Lord, the giver of life," and states that the Spirit is worshipped and glorified along with the Father and the Son. * Church and Salvation: The creed also includes beliefs in one holy, catholic and apostolic Church, one baptism for the remission of sins, and the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.

Likely written in the first or second century AD, it includes guidelines on the "two ways" of life and death, liturgical practices like baptism and the Eucharist, and the roles of church leaders. It was widely influential in early Christianity but was never included in the New Testament canon. * * Content: The text is structured into several sections: * Ethical instruction, primarily through the "Two Ways" of life and death. * Liturgical instruction on practices such as baptism, fasting, and the Eucharist. * Guidance on Christian teachers, prophets, bishops, and deacons. * Instructions for communal life. * A section about the end times. * Purpose: The Didache served as an early church manual or "church order" to help Christian communities navigate their faith and practices during a formative period. * Historical context: * The text was rediscovered in 1873 by Philotheos Bryennios, a Greek Orthodox bishop, though it had been known and referenced in earlier centuries. * While influential, it was ultimately not accepted as canonical scripture. * * FOR LINKS to all our podcasts, visit the ORTHODOX CHRISTIAN TEACHING PODCAST DIRECTORY at the links below. A04. AUDIO-BIBLE: A Book-by-Book Summary of the Bible

* INTRODUCING THE NEW TESTAMENT: * The New Testament is the second part of the Christian Bible, containing 27 books written in Koine Greek that detail the life of Jesus, his teachings, and the beginnings of the early Christian Church. * It consists of the four Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John), the Acts of the Apostles, numerous Epistles (letters), and the Book of Revelation. Christians view the New Testament as the fulfillment of the Old Testament's prophecies and the record of God's new covenant through Jesus Christ. * KEY CONTENT AND STRUCTURE: * The Gospels: These four books recount the birth, life, teachings, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Acts of the Apostles: This book describes the events following Jesus's ascension, including the birth and spread of the Christian Church and the activities of his early followers. * The Epistles (Letters): A collection of letters written by various apostles and early Christian leaders, offering guidance and instruction to the nascent Christian communities. * The Book of Revelation: The final book, filled with symbolic language, which some believe describes future events, including Jesus's second coming and the end of the world. * * FOR LINKS to all our podcasts, visit the ORTHODOX CHRISTIAN TEACHING PODCAST DIRECTORY at the links below.
