Why Walking Away Can Be the Fastest Way to Fix What’s Stuck

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2513830/fan_mail/new] In this episode of The Pink Room, Bryony Roberts unpacks the power of “thinking time” the skill of stepping away from a problem long enough to see it clearly again.  Bryony shares a sharp story from her corporate days: a developer spent hours stuck on a bug, only to solve it in seconds after a short walk, because the real issue was tiny but invisible under stress.  Bryony traces how her early career in high-risk, high-speed industries trained her to equate constant busyness with competence, and why that mindset quietly blocks good decisions. She also reflects on how watching her husband Phil embed thinking time into his consulting and her own shift into parenthood and lower-stress working helped her realise that space isn’t laziness, it’s strategy.  The episode closes with practical ways to build thinking time into real life, especially during busy seasons when tunnel vision feels unavoidable. Clear takeaways: 1. Stepping away isn’t avoidance if it’s intentional. When stress narrows your vision, the fastest route forward can be a reset, not more pushing. 2. Tunnel vision hides obvious answers. The brain under pressure literally filters out solutions you’d spot easily with distance. 3. Busyness isn’t the same as progress. High-pressure cultures reward speed, but speed without clarity creates rework and bad calls. 4. Thinking time is a skill you can schedule. Blocking calendar space for headspace (not just tasks) makes better decisions more likely. 5. Do something physical to free your mind. Walks, naps, cooking, or any grounded activity lowers stress while your brain keeps working quietly. 6. Talk it out with someone outside your bubble. A fresh perspective from someone not in your industry often cuts straight through stuck thinking. ------------------------- Thanks for listening.  Please join in the conversation and i would love to hear your thoughts Follow me on Linkedin at Bryony Roberts MCQP, MSc | LinkedIn [https://www.linkedin.com/in/bryony-roberts-pragmatic-consultancy/] or Facebook at Facebook [https://www.facebook.com/bryony.bartlett] Intro and exit provided by Staffan Carlén / Like Coming Home / courtesy of Epidemic Sound: https://www.epidemicsound.com/track/kPsLtq...

Finding Your Impact and the Courage to Act

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2513830/fan_mail/new] Every legacy begins with a decision. Not the grand, cinematic kind you read in books, but the quieter moment where you admit to yourself: I’m not here just to get by. I’m here to build something that lasts. Turning fifty has prompted Bryony to reflect on legacy. Not in a grand or distant way, but in the quiet, deliberate choices we make every day. She shares her journey from corporate life to running her own consultancy, and how her work in ISO standards and sustainability opened her eyes to something far deeper: the human side of change. Bryony talks candidly about how her professional work with utilities companies led her toward climate action, and how a single experience with Climate Fresk changed her path. What began as a participant’s curiosity has become a calling by leading monthly Climate Fresk workshops that have reached over 120 people worldwide. Through honesty, humility, and heart, Bryony explores how stepping outside your comfort zone can transform not just your work, but your sense of purpose. She invites listeners to reflect on their own impact and to ask, what door am I standing in front of? and to take that step forward.

Why Your Processes Don’t Work (And What to Do About It)

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2513830/fan_mail/new] Processes are the backbone of any business but too many companies either drown in paperwork or rely on unwritten habits that only a few people understand.  In this episode, we discuss what are business processes, when they should be written down, and when they need to be lived and breathed as part of your company’s culture.  I’ll share the common mistakes I see businesses make from overcomplicating procedures to forgetting that culture eats process for breakfast and lunch as well as providing some lessons I have learnt over the years in how you can avoid the pitfall of a bad process.  If you’ve ever wondered why your processes don’t stick, or why everything seems to fall apart when one key person leaves, this episode is for you.

Cyber Essentials: Prevention Over Cure with Chani and Clive

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2513830/fan_mail/new] In this episode of The Pink Room, Bryony Roberts from Pragmatic Consultancy is joined by Chani and Clive Simms of MetaDefence Labs, experts in GDPR, Cyber Essentials, and vulnerability management. Together, they discuss the growing cybersecurity threats facing businesses, the importance of preventative measures, and why board-level engagement is crucial. Chani, Managing Director and co-founder, shares how Cyber Essentials certification has protected clients from breaches for over a decade when properly implemented, and Clive, CEO and 'the Technical Brains', explains why many businesses are shocked by their first vulnerability report. The conversation covers maturity assessments, prioritising vulnerabilities, Windows 10’s upcoming end-of-life, and the value of understanding and protecting your “crown jewels.” Have you considered your technology obsolescence, as Chani and Clive leave a  clear warning: “Outdated systems don’t just slow you down, they can leave the door wide open to attackers.” Staying secure means keeping pace with both threats and the tools designed to stop them.

Milestones: More Than Just Markers in Time

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2513830/fan_mail/new] In this reflective episode of The Pink Room, Bryony Roberts compares milestones to birthdays, defined as fixed dates that can’t be moved, and moments that invite us to take stock of where we’ve been. Bryony discusses the importance of recognising both personal and professional growth, not just in terms of achievements, but in the experiences, lessons, and development gained along the way. Whether it’s a project completed, a career anniversary, or a personal turning point, milestones offer us the chance to pause, appreciate the journey so far, and move forward with renewed perspective.
