Ep 34. - DreamWorks’ Forgotten Island

In this episode of The Raven Report, host 11th grader Maya Hussein “Ena” leads a conversation with Levi Mears and STHS journalism teacher Mr. Jasso about the upcoming DreamWorks animated film titled Forgotten Island [https://www.imdb.com/title/tt36583977/]. Set for a theater-only release this September, the movie is gaining attention for its representation of Filipino culture and mythology, which is a rare sight in mainstream animation. The panel discusses the film’s vibrant visual style and its potential to set a new standard for original storytelling in the industry. We are excited to officially welcome Maya Hussein to the team as she hosts her very first episode with The Raven Report. Maya will be taking over as our lead podcast host for the 2026-2027 school year. This transition marks a new chapter for our program as our current lead host, Collin Kerouac, prepares to graduate. Ep. 33 - Behind the Lens: The Making of 2026' Senior Video

In this episode of The Raven Report, host Rashell sits down with Assistant Producer Stephen Herbert and Faculty Advisor Mr. Jasso to discuss the creative process behind the highly anticipated senior video. The senior video is a Wayside tradition in which students interview each of their classmates and produce a documentary-style video capturing key moments from the senior class. Now in its third year, the team pulls back the curtain on their shift in artistic direction, the logistical hurdles of filming a busy senior class, and their goal of capturing the true, unfiltered spirit of the Class of 2026. Halfway through the episode, Dashel and Jenan, officers of the Senior Video Committee, join to build on the conversation. Tune in to learn what this year's senior video has in store. Ep. 32 - Junior Year: No Slump, Just Jump

In this installment of The Raven Report, host Rashell Vasquez sits down with the Junior Peer Forward leadership team to see how the school year is treating them as they head into the home stretch. From the highs of organizing a successful (and fast-paced!) Career Fair to the nitty-gritty of balancing leadership roles in StuCo, NHS, and Peer Forward, our guests get real about what it’s like to navigate the “Junior Slump.” Is the slump even real? Haley shares why this has actually been her most productive year yet, while the group discusses the importance of personal growth, shifting priorities, and learning to bounce back from failure. RavenTV: Wayside Thrift Returns to STHS

On Wednesday, January 15th, STHS’s National Honor Society hosted Wayside Thrift, an annual clothing fundraiser held in the school gym. The event ran from 3:25 PM-4:15 PM and featured donated clothing items available for purchase by students and staff. NHS members volunteered during 4th period and Raven’s Nest to set up, manage checkout stations, and maintain the shopping areas. The fundraiser required extensive planning and coordination, with NHS officers creating volunteer schedules, layout plans, and specific position assignments to ensure smooth operations throughout the event. Wayside Thrift offered two purchasing options for shoppers. Students could buy bags (small for $2 or large for $4) and fill them with as many items as they could fit, with everything inside the bag being free. Alternatively, shoppers could purchase individual items with prices ranging from free tank tops and t-shirts to $3 for formal wear and jackets. The event had clear rules to maintain order: no backpacks allowed, no food or drinks, payment required upfront with no coins or bills over $10, and all sales were final. NHS volunteers staffed checkout registers and helped shoppers navigate the gym setup while maintaining a respectful shopping environment. In this broadcast, Joscan and Rashell take you to Wayside Thrift, showing how NHS transformed the gym into a thrift store and highlighting the community response to the fundraiser. The segment captures student reactions, volunteer experiences, and the overall success of this student-organized event. This is a public episode. Ep. 31 - How to Get Into College (Without Miss Andrew Hunting You Down)

Welcome back to The Raven Report! In this episode, host Kelvin Carranza sits down with our very own College and Career Counselor, Miss Andrew, to discuss the busiest time of the year at Sci-Tech High School: College Application Season. With the senior class already tracking 184 submitted applications, Miss Andrew takes us behind the scenes of the “busy season,” sharing the strategies her team uses to help students beat the deadlines. She also breaks down common application mistakes—like typos in emails and addresses—and shares advice on how both seniors and juniors can stay on track. In this episode, we cover: * The Sprint to the Finish: How the College and Career Center supports students through personal statements and deadlines. * Common Pitfalls: Why simple typos can cost you an acceptance letter. * Junior Jumpstart: What 11th graders should be doing now to prepare for ACT testing in the spring. * Non-Traditional Thanksgivings: Miss Andrew shares her family’s “no turkey” tradition involving enchiladas and board games.
