the REACTION SHOT podcast
In this episode, I sit down with Greg Glienna; the writer, director, actor, and creator of the original 1992 indie feature film 'Meet the Parents' that Hollywood rarely acknowledges. Years before the Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro blockbuster, Greg made a dark, awkward black comedy for about $30k. What began as an improv bit about meeting an intimidating father-in-law became an indie film that later inspired one of the biggest comedy franchises of the 2000s. We get into the origins of that first film, how wildly different it was from the studio remake, and what it felt like to watch a tiny feature project morph into a global hit. We also talk about Greg’s career beyond 'Meet the Parents', the realities of indie filmmaking, and the tricky balance between creative ownership and mainstream success. Forget the parents, let's meet Greg. ________________________________ *Check out the FULL FEATURE 'Meet the Parents' here: https://youtu.be/OwbKkAvL_wE?si=85nzYlWFPmArTpXH *Subscribe to Greg Glienna's YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@filmmekker *Purchase the 'Meet the Parents Story' book by Laura Enright on Amazon here: https://a.co/d/04Ioi5Oo *Subscribe to my Youtube channel, The Reaction Shot Podcast, and Like and Follow the show on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon, or wherever you like to listen. *Season 3 intro music by Playsound *If you're feeling extra kind, drop a five-star review. *Check out the merch store too!
