Acerca de The Run on Thought Podcast

Hello :) I'm so happy you're here. The Run on Thought podcast is built on sharing the challenges I faced as a Division I runner and my hope is that this helps other people feel empowered, strong, and prevents them from going down the same path. This is a safe space where we dive deep into talking about a wide range of things from body image in sport, fueling, RED-S, and some of the major mindset changes I've made. Your host, Jess Stratton, is a retired D1 runner from the University of Delaware as of last year. She is now living in Washington, D.C. working as a Pediatric Cardiac ICU Nurse!

Danny Reid: Journey From D3 to Pro Soccer & Getting Through Periods of Uncertainty

Episode 24: It is with GREAT honor and excitement that I share this episode with such an amazing guest... Danny Reid! Danny is an old time friend from high school track. He is now a professional soccer player who has played in England, Lithuania, and Vietnam. In this conversation, Danny and I talk about a range of topics from building resilience and remaining steadfast in times of uncertainty, dreaming big, having a "why not me" mentality, and establishing a "North Star". Danny shares perspective that he's gained through the many setbacks, unexpected paths, and mental challenges he's faced in his pursuit to play professional soccer. He helps us understand how to apply patience and belief in yourself when things don't go the way you thought. Finally, Danny gives me advice (haha) on how to adjust your aspirations to be realistic but not limiting if you are trying to accomplish something on a specific timeline. I learned SO much from this episode myself and am so pumped to share this convo; I hope you enjoy :) Follow @runonthoughtpod for updates on the pod <3 Love, Jess

6 Thing I've Learned In the Last 3 Months

Episode 23: 6 Things I've Learned In the Last 3 Months 1) There is no equation or timeline to an emotional healing process. 2) With every loss, there is an opportunity to gain. (Our brains can't conceptualize what we are going to gain so it focuses on what we're going to lose). 3) Know what changes your energy, and know how to fiercely protect your energy.... Let yourself dance! 4) Your workout routine and relationship with your body can go through seasons and that is OKAY. 5) How to actually trust in the timing of the Universe (You may not get what you want when you want it). 6) INVEST IN YOUR FUCKING GIRLFRIENDS!!!!!! <<333 The last 3 months have been absolutely transformative for me, in many good and bad ways. I've been much quieter on my account/podcast about what's been going on in my personal life because it's been such a difficult time, but I feel like I am finally emerging with clarity and confidence in the beautiful lessons I am learning. I hope this is something you can connect to if you are also in a time of hurt, loss, life crisis, or confusion. One thing I know for sure is we are all in this together, and I hope this shows that there is SO much beauty within the difficult times!!! We can CHOOSE to see it. And if we don't see clearly yet, we can at least choose to keep going. These lessons are random, but piece together some of the many aspects of my life I am working on right now. I hope at least one of them can hit home for you, and I try to keep the convo fun and entertaining! I'd LOVE to have deeper convos about these topics if you're going through similar feelings. Love, Jess Follow @runonthoughtpod for updates on the pod and other content :)

episode Pursuit of Purpose artwork

Pursuit of Purpose

Ep. 22, Season 2: Hiiii!! Welcome back to the Run on Thought Podcast :) Recently I've been thinking.... why the hell is there so much pressure to "find" your purpose?? I've started pondering this idea and realized that I completely disagree with "finding" something so abstract/intangible. "Finding your purpose" alludes to the fact that we're trying to get to an end point, a peak, or a destination that's supposed to provide us with eternal fulfillment; but what is that peak, how do we get there, and how long does it take? Are we just unhappy and unfulfilled until we get there? So instead of buying into the idea that I must find my purpose, I'm believing in the idea that we are meant to live IN our purpose, every single day. It's not a moment where we've gotten it, but rather an experience we live in and build upon. AND, your purpose DOES NOT have to contribute to the external world.... how nice is it to hear that?? I discuss how I think any achievement or contribution to the external world you make is not your purpose, but a PRODUCT of living in your purpose. Finally, I talk about how living in the present moment helps us connect to purpose, and why my passions will always be second to my #1 purpose: human connection. Hope you enjoy this episode and the things I think about probably too much.... lol. Love you all so much and thank you for listening. Please reach out with thoughts, I'd love to spark a convo on this!! Follow @runonthoughtpod for new episodes, updates, and a space for vulnerability and growth.

Stop Taking Yourself So Seriously: Emily Stratton Helps Remind Us We Can Find Balance Between Work, Wellbeing, and Fun

Ep. 21, Season 2- Emily and I are back at it again!! I am SO excited to share this conversation we have as I think we offer two interesting perspectives- one who is IN college and one who is freshly out! In this episode, Emily and I discuss whether the college environment is really conducive to BOTH wellbeing/self growth AND academic/career oriented success…. Can we achieve both????? How do we thrive in college while navigating figuring out what you want to do with your life, balancing a social life, and finding yourself?? It's too many expectations! We also talk about how our culture/society is so anti-break and taking time to discover your path.  Following your own timeline is not only not encouraged, but frowned upon. So we talk about how it is TOTALLY OKAY TO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU WANT TO DO IN YOUR LIFE!!!!!!!! LET’S NORMALIZE THIS!!!! And stop feeding into hustle culture and poor wellbeing!! Also discussed is: identity crises, normalizing the lonely parts of college, taking care of yourself and how that translates into success, putting your eggs into multiple baskets (not just one), finding a creative passion, changing your path, not taking yourself so seriously, and striking a balance between work, wellbeing, and fun. “You are NOT the main character” -wise words by Emily Hope you enjoy this convo and it helps you gain a new perspective. :) Follow @runonthoughtpod for updates and more!!

Sisterly Chats- Random Questions w/ Emily

Ep. 20, Season 2- Hello beautiful people!!! In this episode, I welcome my sister Emily onto the podcast!!!! This episode is a “Get to Know Us” episode as a precursor to our next episode ;) coming out in just a few days. Our #1 rule was: 100% honesty. We ask alternate asking eachother questions that we each prepared but didn't tell the other one. This is the randomest convo that may or may not entertain you, but we had fun. You will get to know our weird selves, our thoughts, and hear some funny stories. Either way, we grace you with some good (or bad) entertainment for a random walk, random drive, or some random background noise. Questions Asked:  What is a core memory from when we shared a room together in Wallingford  Is it socially acceptable to take your shoes off in public places  What is the weirdest thing you’ve done with a house to yourself  Should you expect your roommates to keep the house clean to your standard  What is something unordinary that turns you on How do you think being the middle child has made you who you are  What % of time do you think you spend alone & do you want to change that Do you have any recurring fantasies If you could conduct any experiment with no ethical or financial limitations what would it be Please reply whether Emily should stop taking her shoes off in public enclosed locations. Next episode with Emily coming out 5/10 at 10 am EST! Follow @runonthoughtpod for updates on the pod and more!
