Acerca de The State of Blossoming

Tenaj Moody's intersecting identities as an Afro-Latina millennial raised in North Philadelphia, who survived domestic violence, poverty and having a parent who was incarcerated growing up, quickly taught Tenaj the power of story. Stories can touch, teach, motivate, challenge and inspire people to create change. Tenaj's accompanying personal testimonies rooted in these lived experiences, have fostered an unwavering commitment to shift the narrative through the power of story. She has used her story as a catalyst to drive her to become a first generation in her family to go to college, and pursue her career an educator, speaker, criminal justice activist, victim advocate, and business owner of a domestic violence program called Light to Life. The State of Blossoming will stream stories & resources that will focus on healing, reentry, criminal justice reform, trauma, relationships, domestic violence, motivation, mental health and much more! My hope is that these human stories will parallel with your own experiences, reinforce a sense of community, challenge your perspective to new ones and prompt you to think about your own journey of blossoming.

episode Do You Know How To Check Your Breasts For Lumps? Take Charge of Your Breast Health! artwork

Do You Know How To Check Your Breasts For Lumps? Take Charge of Your Breast Health!

In the United States, one in eight women will develop breast cancer by age 75 years.   Getting to know your breasts is crucial to catching breast cancer early. Major cancer centers recommend women start performing regular Breast-Self-Exams (BSEs) in their early 20s. That is one of the reasons why I wanted to have an episode dedicated to promote self efficacy and encourage women and people with breasts to perform this behavior as part of their routines. In this episode, I spoke with Dani and Deanna who are part of a group of graduate public health students at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health enrolled in a health communications course. As part of the course Dani and Deanna along with three other group members Alex, Sofia, and Gabi, carried out a campaign teaching women about the importance of early breast cancer screening and teaching them how to perform breast self exams. You will learn: 1) Why you should check your breasts 2) how to check your own breasts,  3) how to make it part of your routine! Deanna Amarosa is a Masters of Science in Public Health candidate at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore, Maryland. She graduated from The College of New Jersey with a Bachelors of Science in Public Health and Communication Studies. Deanna is passionate about pursuing a career in health communication that educates and empowers others with information and skills they can use to improve their health. Dani Maydan graduated from the University of Michigan with degrees in Neuroscience and Psychology in 2021. She is currently finishing her masters in public health at the Bloomberg school of public health at John’s Hopkins. She’s passionate about health communication and has spent the last two years working for Medicine for the Greater Good, partnering with community leaders in Baltimore to promote health and wellness beyond the confines of the hospital.  Please share this episode with your friends, family and loved ones, to learn more I'm linking a Step by Step Guide on how to conduct a breast self-exam from the groups website : https://feel4lumps.wixsite.com/saveurbumps/how-to [https://feel4lumps.wixsite.com/saveurbumps/how-to] #Feel4LumpsSaveUrBumps Support the show [https://www.paypal.me/LighttoLife ]
