Tracy Gatewood's Sacred Ramblings
A few days ago, I had moved my file cabinet into another room and when I opened the top drawer, the cabinet began to tip down toward my unsuspecting feet. I quickly righted the cabinet and closed the drawer, just in time before it fell over. As I was watching the cabinet tip – I was hoping that I would be able to get it back upright quickly so that I would not get hurt. Before moving the cabinet, I had unbolted a swatch of cloth that was screwed into the wall which was also attached to the back of the cabinet. I was unaware how much I needed the tiny swatch of cloth and bolt, until it was removed. This is the same as with hope and faith. A good working definition for Faith is – the leaning of our entire personality on God in absolute trust and confidence in His power, His Wisdom and His Goodness. I was hoping that the cabinet would not fall over – Hope is a confident expectation of good in every situation. Hope and Faith are two distinctly different things. If that bolt had been in the wall, I would have known that the cabinet would not have tipped. Jesus represents the BOLT or the anchor that we must have to realize sustained faith. We must have our faith anchored in more than mere hoping – or confidence in our own abilities, “good luck” or providence. Consistent, sustained hope can result in faith but only if that faith has a place on which to latch that is outside of ourselves. Let’s face it – if we were enough, why would we need Jesus. I mentioned that Faith is the leaning of the entire personality on God. Our personalities are a part of our souls – our minds / our will / our emotions. Our personalities are entwined with our emotions. When you by faith lean your entire personality on God – you are leaning your soul on God however faith is tied to the Spirit. This broadcast is a reading of my post, The Urgency of Faith. We are most definitely in a timeframe where we must understand who we are, what we believe, why we believe, and to Whom we belong. Faith is a very powerful force for without it, we cannot please God, in fact it is impossible. Hebrews 11:6. Thank you for listening to my Sacred Ramblings Tracy Gatewood
