The Gaffer is one of those film jobs most people have heard of, but very few could actually explain. And honestly, even filmmakers can get fuzzy on where the line between G&E, grip, and electric really lives. But after making our first feature, we can tell you this… a great Gaffer changes everything. We’re sitting down with our Gaffer, Shane Hunter, who worked his magic on Turns Out It’s the Apocalypse… We Think. We’re talking about what the job actually is, what working on our movie looked like, and just how much movie magic happens in the lighting. Shane turned day into night, made a powerless house work on screen, and fought off every rogue flare from passing cars. Join us for a full conversation on all things light, electric, and the kind of behind-the-scenes wizardry that makes a movie actually look like a movie. We're Making A Movie: Talking Editing with Daniel Lowman

Let’s dig in on the editing process and start talking to some real deal editors! First up to bat, we’ve got Daniel Lowman. Coming from a documentary background but with hands-on experience in narrative filmmaking, Daniel lives in the realm of taking all of the footage, performances, and chaos from production and shaping it into something that actually works on screen. We’re taking a look at the editing process from his perspective- how he approaches building a story in post, and what filmmakers should be thinking about before they ever hand footage over to an editor. Because at the end of the day, you can shoot everything in the world… but it’s in the edit where the film really comes to life. Turns Out It’s the Apocalypes… We Think on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/turnsoutmovie/ Turns Out It’s the Apocalypes… We Think on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61581798639056 Daniel Lowman is a director and editor based in Utah, driven by the belief that “passion will find an audience.” His creative curiosity has led him to collaborate with some of the most niche and fascinating individuals across the globe. As a Production Manager at Trademark Films, Daniel plays a vital role in producing multiple documentaries each year. When he’s not on set or in the editing bay, he’s likely spending time with his wife and two sons or at the forge as a hobbyist blacksmith. We're Making A Movie: Moving Into Post-Production

We’re officially wrapping up the production chapter of this filmmaking podcast and diving headfirst into post-production research. Now that the movie is “in the can,” what’s next? When will it be ready? What is taking so long??? Well, turns out, getting the green light can take years, filming happens in the blink of an eye, but post-production takes for-ev-er! (Okay, maybe not… but it certainly feels that way.) Your movie has to go to a lot of different departments before it’s ready to be seen by the world. Color-grading, sound mixing, title sequences… just to name a few. There is a long list of people who put their creative mark on the project in these final stages. So let's get in there and learn everything we can about the Post-Production phase of bringing this movie to life! We're Making A Movie: The Script Supervisor

Our Script Supervisor, Rachael Agnello, is in the hot seat this week, and we are so excited to talk to her about her experience making this feature film. Script Supervisor is one of those jobs that does so much more than people realize. They’re tracking continuity, dialogue, takes, and details for the editor, and basically helping ensure the whole movie can actually cut together when production is over. No pressure. We’re sitting down with Rachael to talk about what that looked like on our first feature film, what she was watching for on set, and what she’s taking away from the experience as a filmmaker herself. Rachael has a passion for continuity and detail in film. She graduated early from the University of Alabama, where she found her love for script supervising. When she’s not working on TV shows, short films, or features, she enjoys working in the photography and editorial space at RenVision Media, a commercial production company in Alabama.  @rachaelagnello8 Turns Out It’s the Apocalypes… We Think on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/turnsoutmovie/ Turns Out It’s the Apocalypes… We Think on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61581798639056 We’re Making a Movie is a podcast that follows the behind-the-scenes adventures of two first-time filmmakers, sharing honest insights and lessons learned to inspire others on their filmmaking journey.
