Bonus Episode: The Cooler King’s Christmas Day Address to the Community.

🎄 Bonus Episode: The Cooler King’s Christmas Day Address to the Nation It wouldn’t be Christmas without a little nonsense. In this special bonus episode, The Cooler King delivers a festive address to the EDCCooperative community, equal parts reflection, gratitude, gentle mockery, and seasonal cheer. There’s talk of pockets, people, over-equipping, small makers doing things the proper way, and the strange joy of carrying objects that matter. We look back on a year of gear, community, and quiet kindness, and we tip our hats (carefully, to avoid coffee spills) to the makers, members, and mischief-makers who make the EDCCooperative what it is. There’s also a look ahead, because next year marks 10 years of the EDCCooperative, and there are plans afoot. Big ones. Community-shaped ones. This next chapter is very much something we want to build together. No agenda. No ads. No hot takes. Just a festive message for anyone tuning in between naps, leftovers, and one more slice of something they absolutely didn’t need. Thank you for listening. Thank you for being part of it. Merry Christmas, happy holidays, and here’s to the year ahead. This is a public episode. What’s The Point - Episode 5 “Slow Gear, Fast Pockets… (Buy once, Cry Twice… or Thrice)”

🎙️ What’s the Point — Maker Monday Slow Gear, Sustainability, and Why Fixing Things Still Matters In this episode of What’s the Point, Philip introduces Maker Monday — a new series focused on the people behind the gear we carry every day. Starting with a coffee from the Starbucks Reserve Roastery in Milan, this episode explores slow gear, sustainability without the finger-wagging, and why repair, longevity, and intention still matter in a world of fast consumption. We talk about why some gear sticks around, why EDC isn’t a uniform (it’s a response), and how makers, engineers, cobblers, and independent shops all play a part in the ecosystem. We cover: • Sustainability, longevity, and repair culture • EDC as a hobby (and why owning multiples is okay) • Shoes, cobblers, and forgotten habits • Designing and making in the UK — when possible • Hebtroco, UK factories, and keeping skills alive • Overseas manufacturing and real-world constraints • Victorinox, leaked colours, and mass-produced joy • Why there’s no right or wrong EDC • Independent shops, sharpening, and buying once Maker Monday is about stories, not sales — conversations with the people behind the tools, objects, and ideas we carry every day. 🎧 Listen, reflect, and tell us: Who made something you carry and love? #WhatsThePointEDC #MakerMonday #EverydayCarry #EDCCommunity #EDCPodcast This is a public episode. What’s The Point - Episode 4 “The Magic of Making”

In this episode of What’s the Point, Philip is joined by Chris “CoolMagic” magician, maker, writer, pirate, and long standing EDCCooperative member. Together they explore how people fall into the world of everyday carry, the joy of writing and handmade notebooks, the creative satisfaction of tinkering and making, and the surprising overlap between EDC and closeup magic. Chris also explains, in complete seriousness, how one becomes a certified pirate. Topics Covered: • How Chris discovered everyday carry and how his setup has evolved • The appeal of handwriting, fountain pens, and crafting notebooks • 3D printing, laser engraving, and the maker mindset • The relationship between magic, creativity, and attention to detail • Chris’s qualification in piracy and why it exists This is a public episode. What's The Point - Episode 3 "EDC in Pop Culture"

In this episode of What’s the Point, Philip explores how everyday carry (EDC) has been shaped by movies, TV shows, video games, and music culture. From James Bond’s iconic gadgets to Batman’s modular utility belt, we look at how pop culture helped create the modern EDC mindset. We break down famous pieces of on-screen gear, the Swiss Army knife in MacGyver, Microtech knives in 24, the Inception spinning top, and even the Amsler Hurricane knife in Blade Runner 2049. We also dig into how games like Zelda and The Last of Us teach inventory management that mirrors real-world EDC thinking. If you love gear, movie props, multitools, knives, or just want to know why your pockets look the way they do… this episode is for you. This is a public episode.
