Malignant Wound Care: Insights from a Specialist

Presented by: Sharon Gardner Guests: Susy Pramod Susy is the Lead Nurse for Tissue Viability at The Christie Hospital in Manchester. Susy has 22 years of wound care experience both in acute and community caring for patients with acute and complex wounds. She has been working at the Christie for nearly 10 years. Working in oncology settings, she is faced with challenging oncology wounds every day. Dealing with malignant fungating wounds has prompted her to carry out more research in the management of malignant fungating wounds and recently completed a predoctoral fellowship focusing on malignant fungating wound management (MFW). Susy has been presenting her work nationally and internationally. Susy has also introduced skin tone assessment into the daily skin assessment at the Christie for which she is nominated for the Nursing Times Award 2024. She has published nine articles about MFW, skin tone assessment and pressure ulcer prevention in various journals including the European Oncology Nursing Journal, Wounds UK, Wound International and the British Journal of Nursing. Also been part of the development of a consensus document for the management of malignant fungating wounds recently. She has also co-authored a chapter in the Non-Melanoma Skin Cancer book. She is a teaching faculty for the ESTRO (European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology) Society. She frequently speaks at different events, covering topics related to MFW, management of radiotherapy skin reactions and skin tone assessment. Welcome to the fourth episode of Wound Care Matters! In this session, we’re delighted to chat to Susy Pramod, who brings over 22 years of experience in wound care and a genuine passion for providing a holistic approach – particularly when supporting people with malignant wounds. The challenges of living with Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS)

Welcome to our new podcast, Wound Care Matters! On our first episode, we are discussing the chronic skin condition known as Hidradenitis Suppurativa with special guest Suzanne Moloney.  Suzanne is a Hidradenitis Suppurativa patient advocate, founder of the Hidradenitis Suppurativa Trust in Ireland and also Founder and CEO of HidraWear, wearable wound care system.   Hidradenitis Suppurativa, also known as HS, is a painful and debilitating skin condition that causes inflamed, painful lumps to form in areas where skin rubs together, such as the armpits, groin, and buttocks. It can have a significant impact on a person's quality of life, both physically and emotionally.   In this episode, we will be diving into the challenges of living with HS, the importance of raising awareness about the condition, and the resources available to support those affected by it. We hope to provide valuable insights and information to help those with HS feel less alone and more empowered in managing their condition.   So sit back, relax, and join us as we explore the world of Hidradenitis Suppurativa with Suzanne Moloney.   Useful links HidraWear – H&R Healthcare (hrhealthcare.co.uk) [https://www.hrhealthcare.co.uk/portfolio/hidrawear/] Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) - Journal of Community Nursing (jcn.co.uk) [https://www.jcn.co.uk/hidradenitis-suppurativa-hs-resource-centre] HidraWear - Wound care solution, adhesive free for hidradenitis suppurativa [https://hidrawear.com/] ---------------------------------------- Hosted on Acast.
