Year 3 Weekly News - Matthew Flinders 2026
The Week Ahead - Week Three We’ve had another wonderful week in Year 3. We were impressed by the students who presented their SSC speeches on Friday, showing great bravery, leadership and communication skills. We also enjoyed beginning our new Impact unit of work on living things. We are looking forward to our Street Science incursion next Friday, where all students will participate in an exciting workshop led by Street Science, exploring scientific ideas through hands-on activities. Class Reps .We are currently seeking Parent Representatives for each Year 3 class. Each class requires one or two parent reps to help support communication and community throughout the year. If you are happy to take on this role, please email your child’s classroom teacher. Independent practice begins this week Each week, students are required to: Read their AR (Accelerated Reader) book nightly and record in their diary Complete three XtraMaths sessions, with each session completed on three separate nights Complete the English and Maths Independent Practice sheets Homework should be completed daily across the week, rather than all on the same night. This helps students develop consistent routines and reinforces learning over time. Homework will be sent home on Monday and is to be returned on Friday, where it will be checked and marked. Learning In Action Friday 20th February 2:10pm You are invited to join us for a fun and engaging scavenger hunt led by Mr Brimblecombe, where students will investigate living and non-living things around the school grounds. Using their scientific knowledge of organisms and life cycles, students will explore, observe and learn alongside their families.
