Or maybe you're a yoga practitioner or teacher who loves the mat, and is starting to sense there's a deeper layer waiting: in Ayurveda, in nervous system work, in understanding what's actually happening underneath the poses?This podcast lives at that intersection.I'm Maxi Meissner -  yoga teacher, Ayurveda counselor, nervous system coach, and PhD in medical sciences. My work draws on 20+ years of Ashtanga yoga and Ayurveda practice, Somatic Experiencing training, and years of biomedical research. What fascinates me - and what this podcast is really about - is that ancient Vedic wisdom and modern nervous system science are often describing the same thing. Just in different language. And when you start to understand both, something clicks.Here we go beyond quick fixes and surface-level wellness. We talk honestly about rhythm, regulation, and what it means to digest life - not just food, but experiences, stress, change, and everything in between. About why knowing what helps isn't always enough. And about how real, lasting change tends to be quieter, slower, and kinder than we've been told.No rigid rules. No performing wellness. From the Inside Out #5 - Your Body Is Not A Dashboard

About twelve years ago I got a step counter, a simple one. And within a few weeks I stopped wearing it, not because it didn't work, but because it was taking the felt sense and joy out of walking. I was tracking my steps instead of feeling my feet on the ground. That small experience stayed with me. And I think about it a lot now, in a wellness culture where tracking everything, sleep, HRV, recovery, readiness (soon hormones) has become not just normalised but actively encouraged. This episode explores what happens to the nervous system when data becomes the primary language (or more and more the language) we use to understand the body.  I also talk about what Ashtanga Mysore practice offers as a counterpoint, a practice with no mirrors, no screens, no metrics, where the nervous system is invited to settle rather than perform; and what no wearable, however sophisticated, can ever measure. To be clear: If a wearable genuinely supports you, that's a good thing. For some people, especially those just beginning to reconnect with their body, that data can be a genuine doorway in - a first way of noticing something they couldn't quite feel yet on their own. This isn't an argument against technology. It's an invitation to ask a different question: Is this tool supporting my body and nervous system feel safer and more connected, or is it slowly replacing my felt sense with something external, or becoming a way of surveilling and controlling my body? Maybe your bathroom shelf looks a little like a small pharmacy. Ashwagandha. Magnesium glycinate. Vitamin D3 with K2. A probiotic. A stress support complex with adaptogens and B vitamins or a menopause complex with all things that sound ancient and powerful. And you pay a lot of money for the supplements. About ten years ago I worked with a practitioner who put me on a supplement protocol. Around ten different pills a day. I gagged taking them. My body was telling me something. I just wasn't listening yet. This episode explores what supplements can and genuinely can't do - without shaming anyone for having a full bathroom shelf. Some supplementation makes real sense. But there's a layer of what we're reaching for that no capsule can build. And in a wellness industry that's sophisticated, well-funded, and not always well-regulated, it's worth understanding the difference. I talk about what the marketing doesn't tell you, also about the overharvesting of popular herbs and what that means for quality. About what Ayurveda understands about Agni - and why even the most beautifully sourced supplement may not absorb well in an overwhelmed system. And about the difference between tending to the body and managing it - and why that distinction matters more than most people realise. Many people who find their way to this kind of work have already tried a few things or more, sometimes (talk) therapy, coaching, self-inquiry, sometimes years of it. They understand themselves (very) well. And yet in their body and in the actual felt experience of daily life something hasn't often shifted (much). This episode explores why. And specifically, why some of what we carry lives beyond what language and conversation can fully reach. This isn't a criticism of therapy, which is genuinely valuable, has changed lives and offers something real and profound. It's an honest exploration of what can live beyond the story we're able to tell,  in the body, in the nervous system, in patterns that were laid down before language was even available. I talk about the autonomic nervous system,  how it operates largely below conscious awareness and shapes so much of what we experience as mood, reaction and behaviour. About implicit memory,  why so much of what we carry was encoded before we had words for it. And about what somatic work actually involves, including the fact that you don't have to go into the full story, that attunement matters as much as technique, and what it means to be truly met without agenda. From the Inside Out #2: The Gap Between Insight and Change

You've probably read the books. Listened to the podcasts. Done the research. You understand your patterns, your attachment style, your dosha - maybe better than most people understand theirs. And yet something still hasn't quite shifted. This episode explores one of the most common, and least visible,  gaps in the healing process: The gap between insight and change. Between knowing something intellectually and actually living it or experiencing life differently. Between understanding your nervous system and feeling it settle. It makes complete sense that we reach for information when things feel hard. Knowledge gives us a sense of agency, a feeling of "I know what this is now." And that's not nothing! Cognitive understanding genuinely matters. But it has a ceiling. And for many people, that ceiling is exactly where they're stuck. In this episode I explore why, drawing on the Vedic framework of hearing, contemplating and integrating, and on what nervous system science helps us understand about why the autonomic nervous system doesn't respond to information alone. I also talk about intellectualisation as one of the most sophisticated ways we stay at a distance from what actually needs to shift, and what it looks like when knowledge finally drops from the head into the body.
