What Is Decimating Most Of The Hemlock Trees Of North America

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2032491/fan_mail/new] In Episode #56 of Season #4, I will discuss what tiny little insect is killing off the majestic and beautiful Hemlock Trees? One of my hobbies is to hike and near me is the Red River Gorge Geological Area.  I love hiking in this area but I do a tiny bit of hiking in Georgia, Berea, KY, and in the Smoky Mountains.  When you are in many of these mountainous areas you will see 70-90% of the Hemlock Trees dead or dying in some areas. What is killing them? It is a tiny tiny black bug covered in a white cotton looking protective layer, and it's name is the Hemlock Woolly Adelgid.   Your host is Tommy Fowler. I have a biology degree from the University of Kentucky and a high passion for the outdoors.  I am "The Amateur Naturalist". We will talk about: * In tonight's episode, I will discuss when it was introduced and where it came from originally. * I will talk also talk about the chemical and biological ways we might be able to control it and maybe someday defeat it. _________________________________________________________________________ *************   https://www.buymeacoffee.com/TommyFowler   ************** One way that you can support this podcast is to "Buy Me a Cup of Coffee".  Not a real cup of coffee.  Just click on the Buy Me a Cup of Coffee and you can give a small donation to help me get some new equipment or to just stay on the air.  Many thanks in advance if you do. _________________________________________________________________________ My website: https://theamateurnaturalist.buzzsprout.com/2032491 Also, be sure to visit Facebook and look for my site ... Dire Wolves Died Out ... Are They Now Back From Extinction?

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2032491/fan_mail/new] Send us a text [https://www.buzzsprout.com/twilio/text_messages/2032491/open_sms] In Episode #53 of Season #4, I will discuss the company Colossal Biosciences and it's attempt at bringing back an animal, the Dire Wolf, from it's 10,000 year extinction.  The Dire Wolf DNA is not 100% Dire Wolf DNA but it has some Gray Wolf DNA segments to make the DNA complete.  Because of this, many people are upset that they are saying that they brought back the Dire Wolf.  But this is just the first attempt at bringing back a previously extinct animal.  No one anticipates ever seeing a Dire Wolf running wild. Your host is Tommy Fowler. I have a biology degree from the University of Kentucky and a high passion for the outdoors.  I am "The Amateur Naturalist". We will talk about: * In tonight's episode, I will discuss the company Colossal Biosciences but very briefly. * I will also mention that the same company has plans on bringing back the Woolly Mammoth in the next 2-4 years. * I will mention the creation of the Woolly Mouse and why it was created. * I also mention that there are other animals potentially on the horizon of bringing back from extinction. Your host is Tommy Fowler. I have a biology degree from the University of Kentucky and a high passion for the outdoors.  I am "The Amateur Naturalist". We will talk about: * In tonight's episode I will discuss the 7 glands of whitetail deer and the glands basic uses. * I will discuss a bit about the last 100+ years of Kentucky restoring the whitetail deer to the populations that we see today. * This is not a podcast about hunting.  I used to live and breathe hunting but I never go any longer although I greatly miss being in the outdoors as much as I used to go.  I never found anyone who spend the hours in the cold, the rain, the thunderstorms, the below zero temperatures all day because of my sheer love of the deer and the outdoors. * I will briefly discuss deer rubs and scrapes, but just briefly today.  I want to come back and do another episode at a later date on these topics. _________________________________________________________________________ ********   https://www.buymeacoffee.com/TommyFowler   ********* One way that you can support this podcast is to "Buy Me a Cup of Coffee".
