This finance guru launched a financial literacy program to support female market vendors in Uganda

Women are the backbone of the household in Uganda — they manage the home, care for the children, pay school fees and hospital bills, and contribute greatly to the household’s livelihood. Supporting women means supporting the entire family. In Uganda, women also are more likely than men to be motivated to start a business out of necessity. However, the survival rates of their businesses [//However, Ugandan women also are more likely than men to be motivated to start a business out of necessity (30% of the women and only 21% of the men), the survival rates of their businesses past 42 months is lower than that of men (GEM, 2012) and they have significantly lower percentages of businesses with employees than men (38% vs 55% in established businesses)] past 42 months is lower than that of men.
