John 12:27-36 — Jesus Chose the Cross

Mother’s Day 2026

Welcome to our Mother’s Day Worship Service at The Vine! 🌿 This Sunday, we celebrated and honored the many women represented in our church family — mothers, grandmothers, spiritual mothers, those rejoicing, those grieving, those still waiting, and those faithfully praying through difficult seasons. We also enjoyed a special video message from our kids, reminding us of the love, encouragement, and impact mothers and women have in our lives. Our message came from Matthew 15:21–28, where we encounter a mother whose desperate situation led her to Jesus with bold and persistent faith. Despite obstacles, silence, and discouragement, she refused to walk away. At the center of this passage is a powerful truth: Real faith refuses to quit until it reaches Jesus. In this message, we reflect on: - A desperate mother who ran to Jesus in faith - How silence and waiting can deepen persistent trust - The humility and perseverance that mark genuine faith - The mercy of Jesus toward those who continue seeking Him This story reminds us never to underestimate what God can do through one praying mother—or through anyone who continues trusting Jesus when the answer doesn’t come immediately. The crowds welcomed Jesus with praise, shouting “Hosanna!” and declaring Him King. But while they celebrated, many were expecting a different kind of king—one who would meet their immediate desires and reshape their circumstances. Instead, Jesus came as the King they truly needed. At the center of this passage is a challenging truth: If we try to shape Jesus into the King we want, we may miss Him as the King He truly is. At a dinner in Bethany, three very different responses to Jesus are on display—and each one reveals something about the heart. Mary responds with extravagant worship, pouring out costly perfume at Jesus’ feet. Judas responds with criticism, masking a lack of devotion behind seemingly practical concerns. Meanwhile, others are drawn in, curious or believing, while opposition continues to grow. At the center of it all is this truth: Your response to Jesus reveals what He is worth to you. In this message, we reflect on: - What it means to worship Jesus with our best—not our leftovers - How true devotion is often costly, personal, and wholehearted - The danger of hiding a lack of devotion behind “practicality” or criticism - The reality that Jesus always calls for a response—we cannot stay neutral Mary’s act filled the room with fragrance.
