Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2093758/fan_mail/new] In this episode, of Couple O' Nukes, it's actually a couple of nukes! I sit down with Jason Sharon, a retired Navy nuclear operator, mortgage expert, real estate investor, hotel owner, author, husband, and father. Mr. Sharon shares his journey from growing up in a small Alabama town to joining the Navy at 17, working through the nuclear pipeline, serving 20 years active duty, and eventually transitioning into the world of finance, mortgages, homeownership, and real estate investing. We talk about Navy life, nuclear operations, carrier duty, prototype, naval reactors, leadership, port calls, and the classic military experience of loving the people while not always loving the system. Mr. Sharon also shares how his life after the military took unexpected turns, including owning rental properties, running a mortgage company, and even accidentally becoming a hotel owner in Phuket, Thailand after originally looking for a retirement property for his family. A major focus of this conversation is homeownership, VA loans, mortgages, and the financial habits that hold people back from buying their first home. Mr. Sharon explains why down payment fears stop many renters before they even start, how food delivery and eating out quietly destroy savings, and why rent can be viewed as paying 100% interest with no ownership return. I also share my own reflections on spending, travel, food costs, and how easy it is to let convenience drain money that could be used for long-term stability. We also discuss Mr. Sharon’s books, including VA Mortgages Declassified, I Hate Renting, The Loan Officer Success Manual, and Renters Make You Rich. Mr. Sharon breaks down the “three Cs” of mortgage qualification: character, capacity, and collateral, while explaining how veterans, first-time homebuyers, renters, and future real estate investors can begin building their path toward homeownership. He also emphasizes that even if someone is not ready today, the right guidance can help them create a plan to become ready. https://jasonsharon.com/ https://www.homeloansinc.com/ Website: https://coupleonukes.com [https://coupleonukes.com/] Exodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/ [https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/] Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? How AI & Phone Calls Are Helping Save Lives At Addiction Treatment Centers

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2093758/fan_mail/new] In this episode, I sit down with Dave Sichel, a man in long-term recovery, founder of Blue Shirt Media, and someone using AI to help addiction treatment centers reach more people during one of the most critical moments of their lives. Mr. Sichel shares how his own experience with addiction, relapse, treatment, and recovery shaped his mission to help the still-suffering addict. This conversation begins with a serious question: what happens when someone finally calls for help, but no one answers? Mr. Sichel explains that for many people struggling with addiction, the decision to seek help may come during a short and fragile “moment of clarity.” If that moment is missed because a treatment center sends the caller to voicemail, leaves them on hold too long, or lacks overnight staffing, the person may never make that call again. We talk about why this can become a life-or-death issue, especially for people battling drugs, alcohol, relapse cycles, shame, isolation, and hopelessness. We also explore Mr. Sichel’s personal recovery story, including getting clean as a teenager, staying sober for 17 years, relapsing after convincing himself marijuana would not be a problem, finding recovery again, relapsing again, and now living more than 12 years clean. Mr. Sichel speaks honestly about the way addiction can rationalize relapse, how dangerous isolation can be for an addict, and why community, meetings, service, and giving back continue to be central parts of his recovery. A major part of this episode focuses on Blue Shirt Media and how Mr. Sichel is helping addiction treatment centers use AI as a compassionate support tool, not as a replacement for admissions teams. We discuss AI phone answering, lead re-engagement, text message follow-up, overnight support, long hold times, dropped calls, and the importance of meeting people where they actually communicate. Mr. Sichel also explains how text messaging can reach people who may not answer a phone call, especially if they are around family or afraid to be exposed. This episode is for anyone impacted by addiction, whether personally, through family, through ministry, or through professional work in recovery. Mr. Sichel’s message is clear: it is never too late to ask for help. If you are using against your own will, unsure where you stand, or afraid that recovery is no longer possible, there are treatment centers, community groups, 12-step fellowships, churches, Medicaid resources, and people who want to help you. Recovery is possible, and one answered call can change everything. How Video Game Accessibility Creates Connection For People With Disabilities

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2093758/fan_mail/new] In this episode, I sit down with Mark Barlet, a service-disabled Air Force veteran, longtime disability advocate, former founder of AbleGamers, and chief operating officer of AccessForge. Mr. Barlet shares how a military injury left him medically classified as an incomplete paraplegic and how his personal experience with disability eventually grew into more than two decades of advocacy, accessibility work, and creating better experiences for people who are often overlooked. We discuss how Mr. Barlet’s work in gaming began after his best friend developed multiple sclerosis and lost the ability to use her mouse hand. Because video games had been an important way for them to stay connected, that moment became the beginning of AbleGamers and a 20-year mission to make gaming more accessible. Mr. Barlet explains how he worked with major gaming companies, contributed to accessibility standards, and helped support the development of adaptive controllers for Xbox and PlayStation. This conversation also explores the positive side of gaming, especially for people with disabilities who may experience social isolation or struggle to leave their homes. I share examples from Japan, including a café where people with disabilities remotely operate service robots, while Mr. Barlet explains how gaming can provide friendship, purpose, mental stimulation, community, and relief from chronic pain. We also discuss the growing variety of games available for different interests, abilities, and levels of social engagement. Later, we move beyond gaming and examine accessibility in business, travel, hospitality, museums, digital platforms, and faith communities. Mr. Barlet explains that accessibility is not limited to wheelchair ramps and Braille; it is about designing experiences that allow people with disabilities to participate meaningfully. We also discuss the enormous consumer power of the disability community and why organizations that create genuinely accessible experiences can build stronger loyalty while serving people more effectively. Mr. Barlet also introduces the work of AccessForge and its Accessible Faith framework, which helps churches and faith-based organizations identify barriers and create more inclusive worship experiences.  https://accessforge.com/ Website: https://coupleonukes.com [https://coupleonukes.com/] Exodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/ [https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/] Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? Accidental Lawyer To Thriller Author: Michael Stockham On Returning To Purpose Later In Life

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2093758/fan_mail/new] In this episode, I sit down with Michael Stockham, a lawyer, novelist, former creative writing student, fly fishing guide, poet, and storyteller whose life proves that it is never too late to start again. Mr. Stockham shares how his path did not begin with a clear legal career plan, but instead moved through studio art, poetry, creative writing, odd jobs, fly fishing, restaurant work, telemarketing, and eventually law school. His journey is a strong reminder that calling, purpose, and professional identity are often discovered through persistence rather than handed to us neatly at the beginning. We talk about Mr. Stockham’s early creative roots, including his degrees in poetry and short fiction, his love of language, and how creative writing eventually connected to the courtroom. He explains how law became a practical and providential next step, allowing him to use storytelling, persuasion, and writing in a more stable profession. I also ask him about the realities of being a lawyer, including the stress, sacrifice, long hours, and emotional weight that comes with helping people and companies navigate crisis. This conversation also explores Mr. Stockham’s book Confessions Of An Accidental Lawyer, which blends real-life inspiration with fictional storytelling. We discuss his experience representing a prisoner in solitary confinement who claimed he was denied proper medication, along with the personal family story woven into the book involving IVF, marriage, and the pursuit of a child. Mr. Stockham explains how these two storylines came together to create a layered novel about responsibility, hardship, justice, and family. Later in the episode, we discuss his Jake Fox legal thriller series, including Jake Fox: Ties That Blind and the upcoming books planned in the series. Mr. Stockham shares how Jake Fox is built around redemption, brokenness, small-town law, high-stakes trials, and characters who continue growing across multiple books. We also talk about why fiction matters, how stories can carry truth, and why writing is not just entertainment but also a way to process life, preserve meaning, and teach through imagination. https://jakefoxthrillers.lpages.co/ Website: https://coupleonukes.com [https://coupleonukes.com/] Exodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/ [https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/] Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes? Pilot Emergency Ejects From A Jet And What Followed Changed Everything

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2093758/fan_mail/new] In this episode, I sit down with Ken Mellott, an Air Force veteran, former pilot, intelligence officer, author, editor, photographer, and man of faith whose life story stretches from the Air Force Academy to a terrifying aircraft accident, military trauma, PTSD recovery, and intelligent design. Mr. Mellott shares how watching the cadets march at the Air Force Academy as a young boy planted a dream in his heart, inspired by his father’s service, military legacy, and the desire to be part of something bigger than himself. We discuss the defining moment that changed his life: a major aircraft emergency in a T-38 jet where both engines failed, forcing him to eject and survive an experience that could have ended his life. Mr. Mellott opens up about the investigation that followed, the shame and anger he carried, the fear of flying, and the identity crisis that came from being seen as “the pilot who crashed a jet.” I also share my own perspective from military life and blue-collar operations, especially how harsh institutional blame can become when leaders would rather blame the operator than admit equipment, systems, or culture failed. This conversation goes deep into military mental health, PTSD, fear of failure, father-son legacy, faith, and the long process of healing. Mr. Mellott explains how his wife’s quiet faith, the example of others who carried hope through suffering, and his own decision to stop living inside the past helped him move forward. We also talk about how identity cannot be built only on rank, career, accomplishments, or other people’s opinions, because true identity has to be rooted in God. Later in the episode, we explore Mr. Mellott’s writing, including his memoir On Broken Wings and his upcoming intelligent design book series. We discuss irreducible complexity, the human body, the Cambrian explosion, the fine-tuning of the universe, and how science can point people toward the reality of a Creator. I also emphasize that evidence and knowledge can point us toward God, but they should lead us into faith, relationship, and trust rather than becoming the entire foundation by themselves. Mr. Mellott leaves us with a powerful message: broken does not mean finished. Whether you are a veteran, pilot, author, believer, survivor of trauma, or someone trying to rebuild after failure, this episode is a reminder that fear, shame, and pain do not get the final word. Faith, perseverance, and God-given identity can carry us into a new chapter. https://www.kenmellott.com/ Website: https://coupleonukes.com [https://coupleonukes.com/] Exodus, Honor Your Heart, & Nulu Knives: https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/ [https://www.coupleonukes.com/affiliates/] Want to be a guest on Couple O' Nukes?
