ਸੂਹੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ਘਰੁ ੬ soohee mahalaa pehilaa ghar chhayvaa Soohee, First Mehla, Sixth House: ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥ ikOankaar satigur prasaadh || One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru: ਉਜਲੁ ਕੈਹਾ ਚਿਲਕਣਾ ਘੋਟਿਮ ਕਾਲੜੀ ਮਸੁ ॥ aujal kaihaa chilakanaa ghoTim kaalaRee mas || ਮੈਂ ਕੈਂਹ (ਦਾ) ਸਾਫ਼ ਤੇ ਲਿਸ਼ਕਵਾਂ (ਭਾਂਡਾ) ਘਸਾਇਆ (ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਮਾੜੀ ਮਾੜੀ ਕਾਲੀ ਸਿਆਹੀ (ਲੱਗ ਗਈ) Bronze is bright and shiny, but when it is rubbed, its blackness appears. ਧੋਤਿਆ ਜੂਠਿ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਜੇ ਸਉ ਧੋਵਾ ਤਿਸੁ ॥੧॥ dhotiaa joott na autarai je sau dhovaa tis ||1|| ਜੇ ਮੈਂ ਸੌ ਵਾਰੀ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਕੈਂਹ ਦੇ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਨੂੰ ਧੋਵਾਂ (ਸਾਫ਼ ਕਰਾਂ) ਤਾਂ ਭੀ (ਬਾਹਰੋਂ) ਧੋਣ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦੀ (ਅੰਦਰਲੀ) ਜੂਠ (ਕਾਲਖ) ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ ।੧। Washing it, its impurity is not removed, even if it is washed a hundred times. ||1|| ਸਜਣ ਸੇਈ ਨਾਲਿ ਮੈ ਚਲਦਿਆ ਨਾਲਿ ਚਲੰਨਿ੍ਹ ॥ sajan seiee naal mai chaladhiaa naal chala(n)ni(h) || ਮੇਰੇ ਅਸਲ ਮਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਉਹੀ ਹਨ ਜੋ (ਸਦਾ) ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਰਹਿਣ, ਤੇ (ਇਥੋਂ) ਤੁਰਨ ਵੇਲੇ ਭੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਚੱਲਣ, They alone are my friends, who travel along with me; ਜਿਥੈ ਲੇਖਾ ਮੰਗੀਐ ਤਿਥੈ ਖੜੇ ਦਿਸੰਨਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ jithai lekhaa ma(n)geeaai tithai khaRe dhisa(n)n ||1|| rahaau || (ਅਗਾਂਹ) ਜਿਥੇ (ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ) ਹਿਸਾਬ ਮੰਗਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਥੇ ਅਝੱਕ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਹਿਸਾਬ ਦੇ ਸਕਣ (ਭਾਵ, ਹਿਸਾਬ ਦੇਣ ਵਿਚ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਹੋ ਸਕਣ) ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ। and in that place, where the accounts are called for, they appear standing with me. ||1||Pause|| ਕੋਠੇ ਮੰਡਪ ਮਾੜੀਆ ਪਾਸਹੁ ਚਿਤਵੀਆਹਾ ॥ kotte ma(n)ddap maaReeaa paasahu chitaveeaahaa || ਜੇਹੜੇ ਘਰ ਮੰਦਰ ਮਹਲ ਚੌਹਾਂ ਪਾਸਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਤਾਂ ਚਿੱਤਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਹੋਣ, ਪਰ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਖ਼ਾਲੀ ਹੋਣ There are houses, mansions and tall buildings, painted on all sides; ਢਠੀਆ ਕੰਮਿ ਨ ਆਵਨ੍ਹੀ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਸਖਣੀਆਹਾ ॥੨॥ ddatteeaa ka(n)m na aavan(h)ee vichahu sakhaneeaahaa ||2|| (ਉਹ ਢਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ) ਢੱਠੇ ਹੋਏ ਕਿਸੇ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੇ ।੨। but they are empty within, and they crumble like useless ruins. ||2|| ਬਗਾ ਬਗੇ ਕਪੜੇ ਤੀਰਥ ਮੰਝਿ ਵਸੰਨਿ੍ਹ ॥ bagaa bage kapaRe teerath ma(n)jh vasa(n)ni(h) || ਬਗਲਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਟੇ ਖੰਭ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਵੱਸਦੇ ਭੀ ਉਹ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਹੀ ਹਨ The herons in their white feathers dwell in the sacred shrines of pilgrimage. ਘੁਟਿ ਘੁਟਿ ਜੀਆ ਖਾਵਣੇ ਬਗੇ ਨਾ ਕਹੀਅਨਿ੍ਹ ॥੩॥ ghuT ghuT jeeaa khaavane bage naa kaheeani(h) ||3|| ਪਰ ਜੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ (ਗਲੋਂ) ਘੁੱਟ ਘੁੱਟ ਕੇ ਖਾ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ (ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਸਾਫ਼ ਸੁਥਰੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਖੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ।੩। They tear apart and eat the living beings, and so they are not called white. ||3|| ਸਿੰਮਲ ਰੁਖੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਮੈ ਮੈਜਨ ਦੇਖਿ ਭੁਲੰਨਿ੍ਹ ॥ si(n)mal rukh sareer mai maijan dhekh bhula(n)ni(h) || (ਜਿਵੇਂ) ਸਿੰਬਲ ਦਾ ਰੁੱਖ (ਹੈ ਤਿਵੇਂ) ਮੇਰਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਹੈ, (ਸਿੰਬਲ ਦੇ ਫਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਤੋਤੇ ਭੁਲੇਖਾ ਖਾ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ My body is like the simmal tree; seeing me, other people are fooled. ਸੇ ਫਲ ਕੰਮਿ ਨ ਆਵਨ੍ਹੀ ਤੇ ਗੁਣ ਮੈ ਤਨਿ ਹੰਨਿ੍ਹ ॥੪॥ se fal ka(n)m na aavan(h)ee te gun mai tan ha(n)ni(h) ||4|| (ਸਿੰਬਲ ਦੇ) ਉਹ ਫਲ (ਤੋਤਿਆਂ ਦੇ) ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੇ, ਉਹੋ ਜੇਹੇ ਹੀ ਗੁਣ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਹਨ ।੪। Its fruits are useless - just like the qualities of my body. ||4|| ਅੰਧੁਲੈ ਭਾਰੁ ਉਠਾਇਆ ਡੂਗਰ ਵਾਟ ਬਹੁਤੁ ॥ a(n)dhulai bhaar auttaiaa ddoogar vaaT bahut || ਮੈਂ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਨੇ (ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ) ਭਾਰ ਚੁੱਕਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, (ਅਗਾਂਹ ਮੇਰਾ ਜੀਵਨ-ਪੰਧ) ਬੜਾ ਪਹਾੜੀ ਰਸਤਾ ਹੈ The blind man is carrying such a heavy load, and his journey through the mountains is so long. ਅਖੀ ਲੋੜੀ ਨਾ ਲਹਾ ਹਉ ਚੜਿ ਲੰਘਾ ਕਿਤੁ ॥੫॥ akhee loRee naa lahaa hau chaR la(n)ghaa kit ||5|| ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਾਲਿਆਂ ਭੀ ਮੈਂ ਰਾਹ-ਖਹਿੜਾ ਲੱਭ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ । ਇਸ ਹਾਲਤ ਵਿਚ) ਕਿਸ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ (ਪਹਾੜੀ ਤੇ) ਚੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾਂ? ।੫। My eyes can see, but I cannot find the Way. How can I climb up and cross over the mountain? ||5|| ਚਾਕਰੀਆ ਚੰਗਿਆਈਆ ਅਵਰ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਕਿਤੁ ॥ chaakareeaa cha(n)giaaieeaa avar siaanap kit || (ਪਹਾੜੀ ਰਸਤੇ ਵਰਗੇ ਬਿਖੜੇ ਜੀਵਨ-ਪੰਧ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਣ ਲਈ) ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ਾਮਦਾਂ, ਲੋਕ-ਵਿਖਾਵੇ ਤੇ ਚਲਾਕੀਆਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਸਕਦੀਆਂ । What good does it do to serve, and be good, and be clever? ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ਤੂੰ ਬਧਾ ਛੁਟਹਿ ਜਿਤੁ ॥੬॥੧॥੩॥ naanak naam samaal too(n) badhaa chhuTeh jit ||6||1||3|| O Nanak, contemplate the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and you shall be released from bondage. ||6||1||3|| Guru Nanak Dev Ji in Raag Soohee - 729

ਧਨਾਸਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ਘਰੁ ੨ ਚਉਪਦੇ dhanaasaree mahalaa teejaa ghar doojaa chaupadh Dhanaasaree, Third Mehla, Second House, Chau-Padhay: ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥ ikOankaar satigur prasaadh || One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru: ਇਹੁ ਧਨੁ ਅਖੁਟੁ ਨ ਨਿਖੁਟੈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ eih dhan akhuT na nikhuTai na jai || ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਇਹ ਨਾਮ-ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਕਦੇ ਮੁੱਕਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਨਾਹ ਇਹ (ਖ਼ਰਚਿਆਂ) ਮੁੱਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਹ ਇਹ ਗਵਾਚਦਾ ਹ ੈ This wealth is inexhaustible. It shall never be exhausted, and it shall never be lost. ਪੂਰੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਦਿਖਾਇ ॥ poorai satigur dheeaa dhikhai || (ਇਸ ਧਨ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਵਿਖਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ । The Perfect True Guru has revealed it to me. ਅਪੁਨੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਸਦ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈ ॥ apune satigur kau sadh bal jaiee || (ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, I am forever a sacrifice to my True Guru. ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਈ ॥੧॥ gur kirapaa te har ma(n)n vasaiee ||1|| ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਆਪਣੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।੧। By Guru's Grace, I have enshrined the Lord within my mind. ||1|| ਸੇ ਧਨਵੰਤ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥ se dhanava(n)t har naam liv lai || ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਧਨ ਪਰਗਟ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ) ਸ਼ਾਹ ਬਣ ਗਏ They alone are wealthy, who lovingly attune themselves to the Lord's Name. ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ gur poorai har dhan paragaasiaa har kirapaa te vasai man aai || rahaau || ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਇਹ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਕੇ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ।ਰਹਾਉ। The Perfect Guru has revealed to me the Lord's treasure; by the Lord's Grace, it has come to abide in my mind. ||Pause|| ਅਵਗੁਣ ਕਾਟਿ ਗੁਣ ਰਿਦੈ ਸਮਾਇ ॥ avagun kaaT gun ridhai samai || ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਸਰਨ ਆਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਔਗੁਣ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ (ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ He is rid of his demerits, and his heart is permeated with merit and virtue. ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥ poore gur kai sahaj subhai || ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਾਣੀ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਹੁਲਾਰੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ By Guru's Grace, he naturally dwells in celestial peace. ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਾਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥ poore gur kee saachee baanee || (ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ (ਉਚਾਰੀ ਹੋਈ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਾਣੀ True is the Word of the Perfect Guru's Bani. ਸੁਖ ਮਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥੨॥ sukh man a(n)tar sahaj samaanee ||2|| (ਇਸ ਬਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਸਮਾਈ ਹੋਈ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।੨। They bring peace to the mind, and celestial peace is absorbed within. ||2|| ਏਕੁ ਅਚਰਜੁ ਜਨ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਭਾਈ ॥ ek acharaj jan dhekhahu bhaiee || ਹੇ ਭਾਈ ਜਨੋ! ਇਕ ਹੈਰਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਤਮਾਸ਼ਾ ਵੇਖੋ । O my humble Siblings of Destiny, behold this strange and wonderful thing: ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਮਾਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਈ ॥ dhubidhaa maar har ma(n)n vasaiee || (ਗੁਰੂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਤੇਰ-ਮੇਰ ਮਿਟਾ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ duality is overcome, and the Lord dwells within his mind. ਨਾਮੁ ਅਮੋਲਕੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥ naam amolak na paiaa jai || ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਅਮੋਲਕ ਹੈ, (ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਦੁਨਿਆਵੀ ਕੀਮਤ ਨਾਲ) ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is priceless; it cannot be taken. ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥੩॥ gur parasaadh vasai man aai ||3|| (ਹਾਂ,) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩। By Guru's Grace, it comes to abide in the mind. ||3|| ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਵਸੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਏਕੋ ਸੋਇ ॥ sabh meh vasai prabh eko soi || (ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਭਾਵੇਂ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, He is the One God, abiding within all. ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਘਟਿ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ guramatee ghaT paragaT hoi || ਪਰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰਿਆਂ ਹੀ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ Through the Guru's Teachings, He is revealed in the heart. ਸਹਜੇ ਜਿਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਣਿ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ॥ sahaje jin prabh jaan pachhaaniaa || ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵੱਸਦਾ) ਪਛਾਣ ਲਿਆ ਹ One who intuitively knows and realizes God, ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥੪॥੧॥ naanak naam milai man maaniaa ||4||1|| ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਸਦਾ ਲਈ) ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ) ਪਤੀਜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪। O Nanak, obtains the Naam; his mind is pleased and appeased. ||4||1|| Guru Amar Daas Ji in Raag Dhanaasree - 663,664

ਧਨਾਸਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ dhanaasaree mahalaa panjavaa || Dhanaasaree, Fifth Mehla: ਮੇਰਾ ਲਾਗੋ ਰਾਮ ਸਿਉ ਹੇਤੁ ॥ meraa laago raam siau het || ਤੇ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ) ਮੇਰਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ। I have fallen in love with the Lord. ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਦਾ ਸਹਾਈ ਜਿਨਿ ਦੁਖ ਕਾ ਕਾਟਿਆ ਕੇਤੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ satigur meraa sadhaa sahaiee jin dhukh kaa kaaTiaa ket ||1|| rahaau || ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਸਰਨ ਆਏ ਹਰੇਕ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ) ਬੋਦੀ ਵਾਲਾ ਤਾਰਾ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਕੱਟ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ (ਜੇਹੜਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰਨ ਆਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਜੜ੍ਹ ਹੀ ਕੱਟ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ), ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਮੇਰਾ ਭੀ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਮਦਦਗਾਰ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ My True Guru is always my help and support; He has torn down the banner of pain. ||1||Pause|| ਹਾਥ ਦੇਇ ਰਾਖਿਓ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਕਰਿ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਸਗਲ ਮਿਟਾਈ ॥ haath dhei raakhio apunaa kar birathaa sagal miTaiee || ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ) ਹੱਥ ਦੇ ਕੇ (ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਆਪਣੇ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਦੁੱਖ-ਦਰਦ ਮਿਟਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ । Giving me His hand, He has protected me as His own, and removed all my troubles. ਨਿੰਦਕ ਕੇ ਮੁਖ ਕਾਲੇ ਕੀਨੇ ਜਨ ਕਾ ਆਪਿ ਸਹਾਈ ॥੧॥ ni(n)dhak ke mukh kaale keene jan kaa aap sahaiee ||1|| ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਪ ਮਦਦਗਾਰ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਕਾਲੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ । He has blackened the faces of the slanderers, and He Himself has become the help and support of His humble servant. ||1|| ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਹੋਆ ਰਖਵਾਲਾ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੀਏ ਕੰਠਿ ਲਾਇ ॥ saachaa saahib hoaa rakhavaalaa raakh le'ee ka(n)tt lai || ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਾਲਕ (ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਪ) ਰਾਖਾ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਗਲ ਨਾਲ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ The True Lord and Master has become my Saviour; hugging me close in His embrace, He has saved me. ਨਿਰਭਉ ਭਏ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਣੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ॥੨॥੧੭॥ nirabhau bhe sadhaa sukh maane naanak har gun gai ||2||17|| ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ਗਾ ਕੇ, ਤੇ, ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣ ਕੇ (ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਕਲੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਨਿਡਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੨ Nanak has become fearless, and he enjoys eternal peace, singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||2||17|| Guru Arjan Dev Ji in Raag Dhanaasree - 675

ਸੂਹੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥ soohee mahalaa chauthhaa || Soohee, Fourth Mehla: ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਭਜਿਓ ਪੁਰਖੋਤਮੁ ਸਭਿ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਦਾਲਦ ਦਲਘਾ ॥ har har naam bhajio purakhotam sabh binase dhaaladh dhalaghaa || ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਹੈ, ਹਰੀ ਉੱਤਮ ਪੁਰਖ ਨੂੰ ਜਪਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦਰਿੱਦ੍ਰ, ਦਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਲ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ I chant and vibrate the Name of the Lord God, the Supreme Being, Har, Har; my poverty and problems have all been eradicated. ਭਉ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣਾ ਮੇਟਿਓ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸੁਖਿ ਸਮਘਾ ॥੧॥ bhau janam maranaa meTio gur sabadhee har asathir sev sukh samaghaa ||1|| ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਭੀ ਮੁਕਾ ਲਿਆ । ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਆਨੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ।੧। The fear of birth and death has been erased, through the Word of the Guru's Shabad; serving the Unmoving, Unchanging Lord, I am absorbed in peace. ||1|| ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਭਜੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਅਤਿ ਪਿਰਘਾ ॥ mere man bhaj raam naam at piraghaa || ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਅੱਤ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰ । ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਭੇਟਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਰੱਖ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ O my mind, vibrate the Name of the most Beloved, Darling Lord. ਮੈ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਅਰਪਿ ਧਰਿਓ ਗੁਰ ਆਗੈ ਸਿਰੁ ਵੇਚਿ ਲੀਓ ਮੁਲਿ ਮਹਘਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ mai man tan arap dhario gur aagai sir vech leeo mul mahaghaa ||1|| rahaau || ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਿਰ ਮਹਿੰਗੇ ਮੁੱਲ ਦੇ ਵੱਟੇ ਵੇਚ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ (ਮੈਂ ਸਿਰ ਦੇ ਇਵਜ਼ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਲੈ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ) ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ। I have dedicated my mind and body, and placed them in offering before the Guru; I have sold my head to the Guru, for a very dear price. ||1||Pause|| ਨਰਪਤਿ ਰਾਜੇ ਰੰਗ ਰਸ ਮਾਣਹਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਪਕੜਿ ਖੜੇ ਸਭਿ ਕਲਘਾ ॥ narapat raaje ra(n)g ras maaneh bin naavai pakaR khaRe sabh kalaghaa || ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਮਹਾਰਾਜੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ) ਰੰਗ ਰਸ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਲਾ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ The kings and the rulers of men enjoy pleasures and delights, but without the Name of the Lord, death seizes and dispatches them all. ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ਸਿਰਿ ਡੰਡੁ ਲਗਾਨਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਨੇ ਹਥ ਫਲਘਾ ॥੨॥ dharam rai sir dda(n)dd lagaanaa fir pachhutaane hath falaghaa ||2|| ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਡੰਡਾ ਵੱਜਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਪਛਤਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੨। The Righteous Judge of Dharma strikes them over the heads with his staff, and when the fruits of their actions come into their hands, then they regret and repent. ||2|| ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖੁ ਰਾਖੁ ਜਨ ਕਿਰਮ ਤੁਮਾਰੇ ਸਰਣਾਗਤਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਲਘਾ ॥ har raakh raakh jan kiram tumaare saranaagat purakh pratipalaghaa || ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਹੇ ਪਾਲਣਹਾਰ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ! ਅਸੀ ਤੇਰੇ (ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ) ਨਿਮਾਣੇ ਜੀਵ ਹਾਂ, ਅਸੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਏ ਹਾਂ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰ । Save me, save me, Lord; I am Your humble servant, a mere worm. I seek the Protection of Your Sanctuary, O Primal Lord, Cherisher and Nourisher. ਦਰਸਨੁ ਸੰਤ ਦੇਹੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਲੋਚ ਪੂਰਿ ਜਨੁ ਤੁਮਘਾ ॥੩॥ dharasan sa(n)t dheh sukh paavai prabh loch poor jan tumaghaa ||3|| ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸ ਹਾਂ, ਦਾਸ ਦੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਰ, ਇਸ ਦਾਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ (ਤਾ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਦਾਸ) ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਸਕੇ ।੩। Please bless me with the Blessed Vision of the Saint's Darshan, that I may find peace. O God, please fulfill the desires of Your humble servant. ||3|| ਤੁਮ ਸਮਰਥ ਪੁਰਖ ਵਡੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਕੀਜੈ ਦਾਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਮਘਾ ॥ tum samarath purakh vadde prabh suaamee mo kau keejai dhaan har nimaghaa || ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਤੂੰ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਪੁਰਖ ਹੈਂ You are the All-powerful, Great, Primal God, my Lord and Master. O Lord, please bless me with the gift of humility. ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਹਮ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਸਦ ਘੁਮਘਾ ॥੪॥੨॥ jan naanak naam milai sukh paavai ham naam viTahu sadh ghumaghaa ||4||2|| ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਛਿਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਦਾਨ ਦੇਹ । ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ—) ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ । ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਹਾਂ ।੪।੨। Servant Nanak has found the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and is at peace; I am forever a sacrifice to the Naam. ||4||2|| Guru Raam Daas Ji in Raag Soohee - 731

ਸਲੋਕ ॥ salok || Shalok: ਰਾਜ ਕਪਟੰ ਰੂਪ ਕਪਟੰ ਧਨ ਕਪਟੰ ਕੁਲ ਗਰਬਤਹ ॥ raaj kapaTa(n) roop kapaTa(n) dhan kapaTa(n) kul garabateh || ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਇਹ ਰਾਜ ਰੂਪ ਧਨ ਤੇ (ਉੱਚੀ) ਕੁਲ ਦਾ ਮਾਣ—ਸਭ ਛਲ-ਰੂਪ ਹੈ Power is fraudulent, beauty is fraudulent, and wealth is fraudulent, as is pride of ancestry. ਸੰਚੰਤਿ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਛਲੰ ਛਿਦ੍ਰੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਚਾਲਤੇ ॥੧॥ sa(n)cha(n)t bikhiaa chhala(n) chhidhra(n) naanak bin har sa(n)g na chaalate ||1|| ਜੀਵ ਛਲ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਦੂਸ਼ਣ ਲਾ ਲਾ ਕੇ (ਕਈ ਢੰਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਮਾਇਆ ਜੋੜਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਚੀਜ਼ ਏਥੋਂ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੀ ।੨। One may gather poison through deception and fraud, O Nanak, but without the Lord, nothing shall go along with him in the end. ||1|| ਪੇਖੰਦੜੋ ਕੀ ਭੁਲੁ ਤੁੰਮਾ ਦਿਸਮੁ ਸੋਹਣਾ ॥ pekha(n)dhaRo kee bhul tu(n)maa dhisam sohanaa || ਤੁੰਮਾ ਵੇਖਣ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਦਿੱਸਿਆ । ਕੀ ਇਹ ਉਕਾਈ ਲੱਗ ਗਈ? ਇਸ ਦਾ ਤਾਂ ਅੱਧੀ ਕੌਡੀ ਭੀ ਮੁੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ Beholding the bitter melon, he is deceived, since it appears so pretty ਅਢੁ ਨ ਲਹੰਦੜੋ ਮੁਲੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਥਿ ਨ ਜੁਲਈ ਮਾਇਆ ॥੨॥ add na laha(n)dhaRo mul naanak saath na juliee maiaa ||2|| ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਇਹੀ ਹਾਲ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਭਾ ਦੀ ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਭੀ ਕੌਡੀ ਮੁੱਲ ਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਏਥੋਂ ਤੁਰਨ ਵੇਲੇ) ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੀ ।੨। But it is not worth even a shell, O Nanak; the riches of Maya will not go along with anyone. ||2|| ਪਉੜੀ ॥ pauRee || Pauree: ਚਲਦਿਆ ਨਾਲਿ ਨ ਚਲੈ ਸੋ ਕਿਉ ਸੰਜੀਐ ॥ chaladhiaa naal na chalai so kiau sa(n)jeeaai || ਉਸ ਮਾਇਆ ਨੂੰ ਇਕੱਠੀ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਕੀ ਲਾਭ, ਜੋ (ਜਗਤ ਤੋਂ ਤੁਰਨ ਵੇਲੇ) ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੀ It shall not go along with you when you depart - why do you bother to collect it? ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਕਹੁ ਕਿਆ ਜਤਨੁ ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਵੰਜੀਐ ॥ tis kaa kahu kiaa jatan jis te va(n)jeeaai || ਜਿਸ ਤੋਂ ਆਖ਼ਰ ਵਿਛੁੜ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਦੱਸੋ ਕੀਹ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੋਇਆ? Tell me, why do you try so hard to acquire that which you must leave behind in the end? ਹਰਿ ਬਿਸਰਿਐ ਕਿਉ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਵੈ ਨਾ ਮਨੁ ਰੰਜੀਐ ॥ har bisariaai kiau tirapataavai naa man ra(n)jeeaai || ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆਂ (ਨਿਰੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਨਾਲ) ਰੱਜੀਦਾ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਤੇ ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ Forgetting the Lord, how can you be satisfied? Your mind cannot be pleased. ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਛੋਡਿ ਅਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਨਰਕਿ ਸਮੰਜੀਐ ॥ prabhoo chhodd an laagai narak sama(n)jeeaai || ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ, ਦਇਆ ਕਰ, One who forsakes God, and attaches himself to another, shall be immersed in hell. ਹੋਹੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਦਇਆਲ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਉ ਭੰਜੀਐ ॥੧੦॥ hoh kirapaal dhiaal naanak bhau bha(n)jeeaai ||10|| ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾ ਸਹਿਮ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਹ ।੧੦। Be kind and compassionate to Nanak, O Lord, and dispel his fear. ||10|| Guru Arjan Dev Ji in Raag Jaithsree - 708
