It was a family fun atmosphere with a ton of things to do. They had many shops, vendors, tarot card readings, along with bands playing. Reading To Dogs!

On Whisker Wednesday's, we talk with Anita's Stevens Swan Humane Society Executive Director Trisha Weller Barone! Along with Mariann Munson from First Source Federal Credit Union talking about the resounding success from June 11ths Ribbon Cutting for a brand-new event! Trisha and Mariann researched this new project for 2 years. It involved children from local schools coming to the Shelter with a parent to spend time reading to dogs! Mariann found this being done at a shelter in Missouri and thought it would be a great fit for Steven’s Swan. Anita, also saw the potential and they did 2 years of leg work, with Mariann spearheading the campaign, to finally make it a reality. First Source has been an excellent sponsor and the event exceeded expectations. For the summer on Saturday mornings at 11am, Anita’s will have this program available to elementary students. Accompanied with a parent, they can come to tge shelter and read to dogs. It is a tremendous success because it relaxes, calms the dogs down and children are able to spend more time reading. I remember being in 3rd grade absolutely horrified when picked to read out loud to the class. Now, children will have more confidence while providing such a kind service to the dogs!

Fundraising Events- Dr. Sheridan Mish

On an All-New Whisker Wednesday's, we meet with Anita's Stevens Swan Humane Society Executive Director Trisha Weller Barone to discuss the fun events upcoming in June. A ball of energy, I am not sure if she actually sleeps or is operated by AI. It's good that I can be a nice distraction who is excellent at occupying time! Dr. Sheridan A. Mish joins the show and is a real love over animals. He works as a Chiropractor and has several locations throughout central New York. Tomorrow, June 7th LifePower Chiropractic, PLLC - Utica office is having an open house from 1pm to 4pm, with proceeds going to Steven's Swan. They are on 2200 Genesee Street and this is a great experience for the entire family. Anita's will have puppies and kittens ready to adopt, Dr. Misch is being brave and spending time in a dunk tank! If he adjusted, you and it's payback time, send him into the water! There will also be face painting and a raffle drawing at the end. Raffle tickets will also be sold for Steven's Swan big November drawing with a chance to win $100,000 dollars. It will be a wonderful day to bring out the family and support a phenomenal cause. Fundraisers, Fostering, Volunteers, And Kittens

Whisker Wednesday's is back, only on Thursday this week. Anita's Stevens Swan Humane Society Executive Director Trisha Weller Barone, along with one of her top lieutenants Melissa DeMartino, who is the Manager of the Shelter, is our guest. Trisha said the fundraising event at Big Apple Music with Kountry Mike Bova went very well, people came out despite not having the best weather. Trisha has a ton of creativity, and I am convinced there is no way she could possible sleep! She has a couple fundraising events coming up and the first is on May 23rd. It will be at the Fitness Mill with a lot going on, from bringing your dog to walk around their track, yoga, facepainting for kids and more. After that, there is one on June 7th at LifePower Chiropractic, we will provide more information as we are closer to it. The Wiggle Waggle Walkathon will be in September, it did not occur last year and Trisha is planning to make it a crazy fun festival with live music, food trucks, just to name a few things happening. Also, raffle tickets will be going on sale soon for a chance to $100,000 dollars for first prize, and you can win money from 4th place and up. Tickets can be purchased at the Shelter and some other locations are also being worked out. A ticket costs $100 dollars, and they will be sold over several months until the drawing in November. Shelter Manager Melissa talks next about kitten season going on and what to do if you find one. It is very important to know whether you are coming to the shelter to adopt a pet, surrender one, or bring in a stray, please call ahead of time to schedule an appointment. Kountry Mike Bova

Welcome to Whisker Wednesdays with Anita's Stevens Swan Humane Society Executive Director Trisha Weller Barone along with Country singer and Comedian Kountry Mike Bova on the show. KM, as he is called, is partnering with Trisha on a Fundraiser Saturday at Big Apple Music. KM will be donating a portion of merchandise and CD sales to Steven's Swan, he also gives back to our Veterans as well. I give Trisha a tremendous amount of credit, since starting her new job, she has hit the ground running. Passion, energy, enthusiasm, and a special creativity. From her time at Utica University, she basically became a Navy Seal at putting on fundraisers and bringing in donations. There is also another Fundraising event on May 24th, we will talk more about it next week. Trisha is outstanding at collaborating with other businesses or non-profits; she wants to help all involved make money on her events. Having a lot of experience previously provides a huge advantage because she knows what types of fundraisers work and the ones which fail. Kountry Mike sang a hilarious song called "Skinny Jeans" from his album. He performs at comedy events starting in the fall and donates money from ticket sales, merchandise to our veterans.
