Phelps believed "with the right mindset, you can attain any goal that's set". Keyshawn is the oldest of five in a single-parent household in Newark. His father was incarcerated for most of his childhood. Keyshawn says he watched his mother work multiple jobs to support their family and valued her advice to always focus on the bigger picture, meaning that although life might throw obstacles our way, we must be determined to pursue our goals no matter what.
