Dignity Awards 2024

We’re doing something a bit different this week. Instead of asking the National Citizens Panel to score passages, we provided them with five of the highest dignity passages from Democrats and five from Republicans, and we asked them to rank them from most inspiring to least inspiring and giving reasons for their scores. It's time to hand out some dignity awards! About The Dignity Index The Dignity Index is an initiative by UNITE, a non-profit organization dedicated to reducing political divisions by promoting respectful and dignified public discourse. The Index measures and scores public speech on a scale from contempt to dignity, encouraging a higher standard of communication among public figures. By focusing on the speech and not the speaker, the Dignity Index is designed to draw our attention away from the biases of partisan politics and toward the power we each have to heal our country and each other. For more information, visit The Dignity Index website. UNITE is advised by social scientists at the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute [https://gardner.utah.edu/] at the University of Utah. In January, 2024, UNITE engaged a panel of approximately 80 U.S. adult participants who were recruited as a representative sample of Americans by political party identification, gender, race, age, education, income, geographic region, and Hidden Tribe methodology.
