The Magnificent AI-mbersons

Blamison are back and better than ever! On this episode we welcome Brian Rose [https://www.instagram.com/brianrobertrose/]the filmmaker behind the reconstruction of Orson Welles’ second film The Magnificent Ambersons which has been in the news a lot lately including this terrific write-up by The New Yorker [https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2026/02/09/deepfaking-orson-welless-mangled-masterpiece]. In this episode we discuss what led to his work on this reconstruction and its controversial use of AI. Then we dig into the film he chose for us to watch Gabriel Over The White House from 1933 which tracks newly inaugurated president from party-line hack to an American Mussolini. We talk about how politics blended with power can end in authoritarianism and fascism from any point on the political spectrum. It’s a harrowing film, but also deeply engaging and instructive. Blamison are back for a duo episode once again! Jamison and Blake talk about 2016's Holidays the anthology horror film and how deeply inconsistent the movie is while a couple of the segments are terrific and others are conceptually good if not executed well. We zone in specifically on "Father's Day" and "Easter" since we were recording on Easter evening. Really this was just a way for Blake to talk about an article he wrote years ago the "Easter" segment. It's a good episode and we hope you enjoy it as well. Blamison is back and this time we get LITERARY. On this episode we have special guest Seth Wieck [https://substack.com/@sethwieck] who just released his debut collection of poetry Call Out Coyote through Wiseblood Books. We talk about his poetry and what it means to be a poet of place. We then turn our attention to the classic Paul Newman film Cool Hand Luke. We discuss the nature of prison films, the all-seeing eye of the state, and even Foucault’s Panopticon.
