Struck Down, We Rise: Legacy, Resilience & the Power of Long-Term Thinking
In this episode of Regenerative Inspiration, Will sits down with Hendrik Jordaan, Global Co-Chair of the Family Office Transactions Group at Nelson Mullins, for a deep conversation about legacy, resilience, long-term thinking, and the responsibility that comes with stewarding capital across generations.
Hendrik brings a rare blend of legal, investment, and leadership experience. From 2013 to 2024, he served as Founder, President, CEO, and Chairman of the Investment Committee for multiple private equity and private credit funds, overseeing more than $200 million in assets under management. Prior to that, he was Global Chair of the Private Equity Investments & Buyouts Group at Morrison Foerster LLP—placing him at the center of complex transactions, global capital flows, and high-stakes decision-making.
Today, at Nelson Mullins—a 125+ year old Am Law 60 firm with more than 1,000 attorneys and advisors—Hendrik helps lead one of the most active M&A practices in the country. The firm’s 150+ attorney M&A team was ranked #20 most active U.S. M&A firm by PitchBook (2024), closing 316+ transactions totaling over $22.6 billion in 2023–2024 alone.
But this conversation goes far beyond deal volume and credentials.
Hendrik shares the deeply personal story behind his family motto—“Struck down, I shall rise again”—and how generational resilience, patience, and perspective shape not only wealth strategies, but leadership itself. Together, they explore the massive generational wealth transfer underway, the rise of family offices, the power of patient capital, and why slowing down to think long-term may be the most strategic move leaders can make today.
This episode explores:
• Family offices vs. traditional private equity
• Long-term thinking in a short-term world
• Generational wealth transfer and intentional capital
• Governance, values alignment, and stewardship
• Resilience, adversity, and lessons passed down through generations
• Why patience is a competitive advantage in leadership and life
Hendrik has been featured in Bloomberg, CNBC, Financial Times, FOX, Wall Street Journal, and more, and has been recognized by Chambers & Partners, Who’s Who Legal, Super Lawyers, The Legal 500, and Law Week Colorado.
A powerful conversation for founders, investors, executives, and anyone thinking beyond the next deal—toward legacy, regeneration, and meaning.
