Episode 2: Professional identity and impact within workplace psychology – with Rob Briner, Stewart Desson and Alexandra Wressle

In this second episode of the Work Psych Pod, Dr Bobbie Goves and Dr Rob Feltham host a lively and provocative discussion around issues of professional identity and impact within the business/occupational psychology profession. Many of us grapple with how we describe who we are and what different credentials signal. Topics covered include: how we as occupational/business psychologists credentialise ourselves; the impacts of the commercial and competitive context within which many of us operate; evidence-based practice and what that actually means; the commoditisation of some of the professional services we offer; and the ethical basis of good practice.   Rob Briner is Professor of Organizational Psychology (Queen Mary University of London) and Associate Director of Research at Corporate Research Forum (CRF).  He is involved in various activities around evidence-based practice in work psychology and HRM.  The most recent of which is CRF's Work Psychology Network which provides HR functions and individual HR practitioners.  You can find out more about the network here [https://www.crforum.co.uk/crf-work-psychology-network/ [https://www.crforum.co.uk/crf-work-psychology-network/]] and more about Rob here [https://www.linkedin.com/in/rob-briner/ [https://www.linkedin.com/in/rob-briner/]].  Dr Stewart Desson is the CEO and founder of international selection and development company, Lumina Learning and is on the board of the Association for Business Psychology (ABP). He is a highly experienced trainer and consultant and a leading expert in psychometrics who collaborates globally with like-minded people to help organisations become more inclusive and democratic. Episode 1: The DOP and The ABP – Who we are, what we do, and why it matters, with Liza Walter-Nelson and Claire Lish

This very first episode of the Work Psych Pod addresses the question of why the Association for Business Psychology (ABP) and the BPS Division of Occupational Psychology (DoP) exist, what they actually do, and what value they bring to members and prospective members. Dr Liza Walter-Nelson, Chair of the DOP, and Claire Lish, Chair of the ABP, are in conversation here with podcast hosts Dr Bobbie Groves and Dr Rob Feltham.    Topics covered include: career paths into the business/ occupational psychology profession; the practice of psychology in business as opposed to the theory; how psychologists communicate what they do and how they label themselves; how to support later career professionals and business people who wish to qualify as psychologists; and the ways in which the ABP and DOP both compete and cooperate.      The key uniting theme from the discussion is passion for the benefits of psychology in business, and the continual drive for higher standards.  This podcast was edited and produced by Rob Feltham.
