Mind the Generation Gap.
This interview was booked four weeks ago. Helene Jawhara-Piner is both a chef and a historian, and in her book: ' Sephardi. Cooking the History ' , travels extensively recording the Sephardi's challenges of repression, their stories of food being interlinked to their identity and community under the Spanish Inquisition , and in Helene's modern kitchen, giving new life and a voice to the forgotten recipes she discovers. There is an amazing selection of recipes from the 13th century to the present day of Sephardi's Jews and the diaspora. Her book is beautifully displayed and very inviting as well as, learning the history. The recipes are easy to follow and delicious too. This book has heart and soul with a message, ' to eat is to remember', and that can be applied universally.
