Assimilation is a tough one for Afghans. So many think that if they assimilate it means they are giving up their heritage. That’s not the case at all. Italian Americans, Irish Americans, Japanese Americans etc. celebrate their culture while maintaining their American pride. We can be 2 things at once and have the best of both worlds! This episode talks about this topic at length.

Twin sisters, Zahra and Fatima Aziz share their personal story and feelings about Zahra’s courageous coming out journey of facing her loved ones with the reality that she’s a lesbian and how it affected Fatima and their family. Glad to be back! Glad I didn’t cancel this podcast! I talk about why I took an extended break and why I almost gave up on the Afghan community, again. I also talk a little about life in the last 6 months: the global pandemic, protests, riots, stress, how we are going to get through this crazy time!

This episode covers how, culturally, Afghans have a constant sense of guilt and how this guilt is unhealthy, limiting and keeping you away from your full potential.
