Tishiko King is a proud Kulkalaig woman from the island of Masig in the Torres Straight. She is a marine biologist, climate justice advocate, and all round incredible human fighting for the betterment of our home planet, and it’s inhabitants. Tish is the founder of Just Futures Collab, an aboriginal and Torres straight island led giving circle, shifting money and power to aboriginal and Torres Strait Island led solutions helping to activate resources for climate justice, strengthening communities, and the climate they depend on, to thrive. Tish and I spoke about many things, including connection to the natural world and extending that to others, the importance of indigenous led solutions to the climate crisis, the impact her communities of the Torres Strait have already felt from climate impacts, and more. Kate is someone who is bursting with passion for making a positive impact in the world. She ran as an independent candidate in Fremantle at both the federal election and state election last year in Western Australia and came so close to winning with a margin of less than 1 percent both times. The cool thing about Kate though, is she would never strike you as a politician. She’s a photograher, she was a small business owner for 13 years in Walyalup/Fremantle, and she’s just a cool, everyday person. If you follow her online, you’ll see that she’s involved in the campaign against Woodside in WA, she speaks a lot about politics, and she seems to always be doing something to make her community and the world a better place. You might’ve seen Clancy’s videos on social media before, talking about bees, about how Autumn doesn’t exist in Australia, or the videos of him sun baking on a nature strip in the middle of the road wearing his buddy smugglers.
