episode Young Ebenezer: A New Christmas Carol Audiobook by Rose English cover

Young Ebenezer: A New Christmas Carol Audiobook by Rose English

Listen to this audiobook in full for free on http://hotaudiobook.com [http://hotaudiobook.com] Title: Young Ebenezer: A New Christmas Carol Author: Rose English Narrator: Bill Schafer Format: Unabridged Length: 9 mins Language: English Release date: 12-22-17 Publisher: Gillari Books Genres: Kids, Ages 8-10 Publisher's Summary: This story is a seasonal treat, a modern, lyrical retelling of the Charles Dickens classic, A Christmas Carol. The audiobook is specially designed for families to share during the holiday season, or for young, competent listeners to try for themselves. This is a beautiful audiobook to treasure. Eb is a spoiled child who really is not one for caring, and he certainly hates sharing. He is watched over by a very special guardian - the familys ancient longcase clock, who is bestowed with magic. His name is Grandfather Time. On Christmas Eve, Grandfather Time decides he must teach the boy a lesson. So he calls upon his friends, the Ghosts of Past, Present, and Future, and with lessons to learn, he brings forth the first tutor - a little, golden red King Charles spaniel, called Miss Ruby Heart. Will this unlikely pair be able to teach the boy the error of his ways? Or will he be doomed to be a scruffy, lonely teenager stuck forever in his own little world? Members Reviews: A lyrical version of A Christmas Carol Would you consider the audio edition of Young Ebenezer: A New Christmas Carol to be better than the print version? I loved the audio version it brought the story to life. Although the print version has the beautiful coloured images so I love both equally. What was one of the most memorable moments of Young Ebenezer: A New Christmas Carol? I loved when the magical clock named 'Grandfather Time' calls to his friends and the ghost of Christmas Past, a little ruby coloured King Charles spaniel called 'Ruby Heart' appears. She is the little dog from the cover. Which scene did you most enjoy? This lyrical story has so many wonderful scenes it is hard to choose. I think one that stands out is when Eb finds he is no longer in his bedroom in the dark but in the blink of an eye he is outside in the park with lots of children playing together and sharing, something that Eb does not do. Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you? When Eb was frightened by the Grim Reaper and shown a young man with greasy hair in a dark gloomy room playing alone on his pc games with no friends and he realises this could be him and he vows to change his ways. Any additional comments? This is a very short and lyrical story great for young listeners and the young at heart like myself. A wonderful new modern version of the Charles Dickens classic 'A Christmas Carol' Very Highly Recommended

episode Goblin War Audiobook by Arthur Butt cover

Goblin War Audiobook by Arthur Butt

Listen to this audiobook in full for free on http://hotaudiobook.com [http://hotaudiobook.com] Title: Goblin War Subtitle: Fairyland Series, Book 2 Author: Arthur Butt Narrator: Kevin Rineer Format: Unabridged Length: 8 hrs and 9 mins Language: English Release date: 11-16-17 Publisher: Clean Reads Genres: Kids, Ages 8-10 Publisher's Summary: AJ has been summoned to Fairyland to fight a goblin army. He doesn't know how, nor do the elves who called him. Nevertheless, he and Princess Tana set off to do battle. The war turns ugly. Princess Tana is captured. AJ must rescue her and learn why rumors say she's his girlfriend. Members Reviews: Five Stars Good read Fast-paced with almost non-stop action After risking everything to help Tanaquill, Princess of Alfheim, retrieve the Rod of Reality, AJ is transported back to Fairyland, along with his lizard, to lead in battle against goblins which are threatening to take over the kingdom. Since elves don't fight wars, King Oberon wants AJ to take charge. Captain Goodfellow is on their side in the fight again Surt, the Goblin King, and they pick up more valiant warriors along the way. Getting cooperation and organizing everyone is frustrating for AJ, but he puts everything he has into the war, even if it means not making it back to his reality. The challenge is more difficult and dangerous than AJ thought it would be, and there are many twists and turns in this fantasy, including goblins riding dragons through the air, and a volcano which comes to life. But none affect AJ as much as the kidnapping of one of his closest allies. Given this new incentive, he is more determined than ever to fight the evil forces which push their way through Fairyland. The Goblin War has almost non-stop action and suspense, with colorful characters and fascinating situations from the author's vivid imagination. If you're looking for a fast-paced adventure, this novel might be for you. Mixed emotions This is the second book in a series and I felt I was missing a lot of pieces by not having read the first one. That being said, this book was full of adventure and had a fair amount of humor interspersed. The target audience seems to be middle school age. I was a bit concerned with the level of violence for a book targeted to that age. Other than the violence, the book was clean. episode The Bone Thief Audiobook by Alyson Noël cover

The Bone Thief Audiobook by Alyson Noël

Listen to this audiobook in full for free on http://hotaudiobook.com [http://hotaudiobook.com] Title: The Bone Thief Author: Alyson Noël Narrator: Robbie Daymond Format: Unabridged Length: 7 hrs and 17 mins Language: English Release date: 10-17-17 Publisher: Listening Library Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 3 votes Genres: Kids, Ages 8-10 Publisher's Summary: Fans of Tim Burton and Wes Anderson will love this new fantasy novel by number one New York Times best-selling author Alyson Noël in which a ragtag team of 11-year-olds with otherworldly abilities set out to solve the mystery behind the sudden onset of ordinary events plaguing their very unusual town. Compared to other more ordinary towns, Quiver Hollows is a very strange, very curious place. It is also home to longtime friends Grimsly, Ollie, Ming, and Penelope. In a town where everyone is spectacularly abnormal, Grimsly feels bad about being terribly, unforgivably normal, as the town's pet funeral director. So when a series of strange and disturbing mundane occurrences begins plaguing Quiver Hollows, well, Grimsly fears his growing celebrity just might be to blame since everyone knows that the things you focus on the most have an uncanny way of shaping your world. The group of friends also learn that the bones in the pet cemetery are thought to be the source of the strange magic that binds the town of Quiver Hollows. With the bones now gone, the town's magic is quickly dissipating. Will it ultimately become as common and ordinary as everywhere else? Members Reviews: Delightful... The Bone Thief Alyson Noel I seem to be reading a lot of middle school books lately. I like a large variety of books from children to middle school to young adult and adult. I enjoy fiction to nonfiction, romance, mystery, science fiction, fantasy and biography. The Bone Thief happens to fall in the category of middle school, fantasy. Imagine a town where everyone is a bit strange, everyone but one person. Grimsly Summerfield is Quiver Hollowâs pet funeral director. Yes, you read that right. He is the PET funeral director. When a goldfish dies he gives a beautiful eulogy. He is normal in an abnormal town. Suddenly, something is wrong in Quiver Hollow things are becoming (gasp) normal; they are losing their magic. Grimsly thinks he is responsible. He and his friends are determined to return Quiver Hollows to its abnormal self again. Grimsly begins a journey to find the Seer to help return magic to Quiver Hollows. On his quest, he discovers a school teaching students that magic isnât real, that it doesnât exist. He discovers the history of Quiver Hollow and a diabolical plot to take over the town. Middle Schoolers will love this book. This is the kind of book they will want to read. The descriptions are vivid. The characters are delightfully created. Ollie can bend spoons just using his mind. Penelope has visions and can connect clairvoyantly. Ming dances ballet in the air; she can levitate. As you can see there are abnormal characters in this abnormal town. Then there is Grimsly, an orphan, loveable normal and caring person. This is an entertaining, fun book but it also has several subtle themes: believe in yourself, believe you are unique, a sense of responsibility, and be true to yourself. This is an easy read and should work will for both advanced readers and challenged readers. Fun, but has its darker moments.... With a comparison to Tim Burton, there was no way I was passing this book up. After finishing it, I could definitely picture it as a Tim Burton movie. It has an odd, creepy feel to it, but still fun. The chapters are incredibly short. It's fast paced and a quick read, so it's a nice book for reluctant readers. I know many children need a shorter book, and there's nothing wrong with that.

episode History for Kids: The Lincoln-Douglas Debates Audiobook by Charles River Editors cover

History for Kids: The Lincoln-Douglas Debates Audiobook by Charles River Editors

Listen to this audiobook in full for free on http://hotaudiobook.com [http://hotaudiobook.com] Title: History for Kids: The Lincoln-Douglas Debates Author: Charles River Editors Narrator: Tracey Norman Format: Unabridged Length: 32 mins Language: English Release date: 10-13-17 Publisher: Charles River Editors Genres: Kids, Ages 8-10 Publisher's Summary: In Charles River Editors' History for Kids series, your children can learn about history's most important people and events in an easy, entertaining, and educational way. The concise but comprehensive book will keep your kid's attention all the way to the end. The most famous debates in American history were held over 150 years ago, and despite their fame, no official transcripts were ever taken. Throughout the fall of 1858, US Senate candidates Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas participated in seven three-hour debates throughout Illinois. This unprecedented method of campaigning drew national attention, one that is still often idealized even today among those who feel politics is too bitterly partisan. The main theme of the debates was the topic being discussed across the nation: slavery. When Congress created the territories of Kansas and Nebraska in 1854, it allowed the citizens of those territories to vote whether the new states would be free states or slave states. This idea of allowing the citizens to vote was known as "popular sovereignty", and it was championed by the "Little Giant", Stephen Douglas. Casting himself as a moderate, Douglas believed popular sovereignty would not divide the nation, and thinking further ahead he believed slavery could not thrive in the Western territories because the land there was inhospitable to slave labor anyway. However, while Douglas viewed popular sovereignty as a more democratic means to solve problems, the North considered popular sovereignty a deliberate attempt to circumvent the Missouri Compromise, which was supposed to have banned slavery in any state above the parallel 3630' north. While Lincoln recognized the right of states to maintain slavery where it already existed, he strongly opposed the expansion of slavery and argued forcefully against popular sovereignty, which he thought threatened to expand slavery across the entire nation. Douglas looked to blunt Lincoln's arguments during the debates by casting him as a radical "Black Republican", accusing him of advocating for the social and legal equality of the races. Though he opposed slavery on moral grounds, Douglas also wanted to deny citizenship to all African-Americans, which the Supreme Court had ruled in the Dred Scott case. In his rebuttal, Lincoln offered one of his most quotable moments: "I protest against the counterfeit logic which concludes that, because I do not want a black woman for a slave, I must necessarily want her for a wife. I need not have her for either, I can just leave her alone." History for Kids: The Lincoln-Douglas Debates chronicles the two candidates' famous debates, explaining the historical events that preceded the debates, the chronology and arguments of the debates, quotes from the candidates themselves, and the aftermath and legacy of the debates. Your kids will learn about the Lincoln-Douglas Debates like never before.
