Welcome to The Friendship Studio Podcast! This show explores how psychology, emerging technology, and evolving social norms are reshaping the way we experience adult friendship.Life today can feel a little like episodes straight out of Black Mirror — so I created this conversational space for people who are curious about connection, modern culture, and who like to nerd out a bit about technology and what it means for our global society.Keep me company as we reflect, laugh, and figure out what it really means to stay human and connected to each other.Hosted by Jacq J.Have a burning question, comment, or story that you want Jacq to know about or answer? episode Where Else Can I Make Friends Outside Of Work? cover

Where Else Can I Make Friends Outside Of Work?

Hi everyone! I'm back with a follow up to the "Coworkers Aren't Your Friends" episode. So many of you all resonated with that topic, so I created an episode that is a practical guide to making friends outside of work. I talk about specific places to go that create healthier and longer-lasting connections and recapping why workplaces are harder today to create strong friendships. In this episode I go into topics about: • choosing recurring hobbies over one-off events • dance, writing workshops, group fitness, improv, choir, martial arts as perfect environments for building friendships • skill-based learning like languages, book clubs, pottery, welding, acting and music production • faith and spiritual communities for consistent connection • volunteering as a filter for kind, empathetic people • animal shelters, community gardens, mutual aid groups and how to find them • playing the long game and avoiding instant over-investment • being intentional, staying open, handling awkwardness, risking rejection Let me know in the comments, wherever you are listening, what are you challenging yourself to commit to for the next 4 weeks in order to start building new friendships? Come back every week and let us know how it has been going...what are you learning, have you met anyone new yet, and what has been hard about it? I'll see you all in the next episode! -Jacq Share your story, question, or comment→ https://forms.gle/8NftiVSTH7zLZKtm6 Ready for more about friendship, connection, and the modern world? episode The Truth About Clingy Friends, Neediness, & Attachment cover

The Truth About Clingy Friends, Neediness, & Attachment

Hi everyone! This episode is all about understanding our clingy friends and our own clingy behavior. We explore why clingy friendship behavior shows up, how attachment styles shape our reactions, and what helps both anxious friends and the people who love them. We share tools to self-regulate, set clear plans, and build security in our own lives. Some of the subjects we jump into in the episode are around: • fear of abandonment and low self-worth as root causes • attachment theory overview and four attachment styles • anxious and avoidant push-pull dynamics in friendship • strengths within anxious traits such as loyalty and empathy • self-regulation tools and diversifying emotional support • building routines and anchors outside friendship • attachment labels as frameworks not fixed identities If you enjoyed this episode, or maybe if you disagreed with parts of it, just let me know in the comments wherever you're listening If you watch this episode on YouTube, give it a thumbs up 👍 and engage with the video. episode How To Stop Being The Clingy Friend Before It Backfires: A Reddit Story cover

How To Stop Being The Clingy Friend Before It Backfires: A Reddit Story

In this mini episode, I read a short story from Reddit about someone who knows he is the "clingy" friend. He shares what happened between him and a friend and wants some advice on how to move forward with other people in a better way. This story will start us off, before going on a deeper dive in future episodes into what exactly clinginess is, where it comes from, and how to handle clinginess in a friendship. What does this story make you think about your clingy behavior or a friends? Where do you think clinginess comes from? Have friendships gotten too suffocating in today's modern world or are we afraid of closeness in friendships? Let me know what you think in the comments 👇🏼 See you all next time! - Jacq Share your story, question, or comment→ https://forms.gle/8NftiVSTH7zLZKtm6 Ready for more about friendship, connection, and the modern world? Flaky Friends, Hard Truths (From a Former Flake)

Flaky friends. You probably love them but they drive you crazy with their inconsistent behavior. In this episode, sit with me as I look at what actually makes a "flaky" personality, how does it show up in our friendships, and what I think you should do about your flaky friends...all coming from the perspective that I used to BE the flaky (fun-loving 😇) friend. If you struggle with flaky friends (or you are the flaky friend) and want to dig into a little of the why- this one is for you! Go ahead and share your thoughts or your stories in the comments, or if you actually want to write in anonymously to me, the link is going to be below wherever you are listening. 👇🏼 Share your story, question, or comment→ https://forms.gle/8NftiVSTH7zLZKtm6 Ready for more about friendship, connection, and the modern world? episode New Year, New World, New Friends cover

New Year, New World, New Friends

Hi Friends! Welcome back to The Friendship Studio- Happy New Year 🥳 In one of the first episodes of 2026, I wanted to talk about a something that sparked the idea of "friendship as our foundation". The inspiration came from a short I saw on Youtube (see link below) and today I wanted to talk about the concept of "world building" and what it could look like if friendship was part of the foundation of our lives. I talk about the concept of world building, "romance" in friendships (yes, it can be there ) and what that looks like if it were, and why we need to decide what will be in the world WE want to live in. Let me know how your New Year is going and what would your world look like with friendship as part of your foundation. See you next week. -Jacq Link to Youtube short that inspired this podcast episode: https://youtube.com/shorts/ketI6vRa5OU?si=cMAcwqdoiBC8so4m [https://youtube.com/shorts/ketI6vRa5OU?si=cMAcwqdoiBC8so4m] Share your story, question, or comment→ https://forms.gle/8NftiVSTH7zLZKtm6 Ready for more about friendship, connection, and the modern world?
