episode Super Duper Oddcast Episode 8: Murphy Weed cover

Super Duper Oddcast Episode 8: Murphy Weed

In this episode of The Super Duper Oddcast, Actor Murphy Weed shares her journey from college student to professional actor. Originally hired as a background actor, she took a semester off from college for the two-month-long commitment. On her very first day, a special effects makeup artist approached her. A last-minute dropout with her exact height had opened up a spot, and after confirming she wasn't allergic to latex, she was immediately put in three hours' worth of prosthetic makeup. The next day, the makeup artists, proud of their work, showed a photo of her in the makeup to James, the director, who immediately asked to bring her in for a part. This led to her becoming part of the "nowhere family." After this experience, she decided to pursue acting as a career and a year later and asked her to audition for a role in the film Crypto. There was no pre shoot rehearsal and no real discussion about what was wanted; she simply did a rehearsal right before they started rolling. She would watch her co-star to learn the movements and hoped it was what the directors wanted. Her very first day of filming involved a long, eight-to-ten-hour day, which left her knees black and caused her to rip through motorcycle gloves on the concrete and salt ground. Despite the physical toll, she had a blast and was fueled by adrenaline. She knew the film would be well-received and was excited to be a part of such a positive project. Murphy’s story is just one of many in the film industry. For more amazing behind the scenes stories, check out the Super Duper Oddcast! episode The Super Duper Oddcast Episode 7: Giovannie Cruz cover

The Super Duper Oddcast Episode 7: Giovannie Cruz

In this Episode of the Super Duper Oddcast, Entertainer Giovannie Cruz discusses her journey from Military bases to work on films, television, as an anime voice actor and music director. This episode of the dives into how imagination, resilience, and opportunity can create a one-of-a-kind career. Giovannie recalls childhood escapes into sci-fi and comics while living in the uniformity of military housing, and how those early imaginative sparks fueled her passion for storytelling. From her roots as an opera singer with paralyzing stage fright to becoming a stunt singer for Funimation anime, she shares how creative detours shaped her voice — literally and figuratively. Her transition into Hollywood is just as unconventional: she booked The Suicide Squad without ever meeting James Gunn, arriving on set to act alongside Peter Capaldi, John Cena, and Idris Elba in her very first scene. She later embodied Cheryl Kimball, a little-known DC Comics character connected to Superman, reflecting on how much depth Gunn and his crew bring to even overlooked roles. The conversation touches on fandom, representation, and the hidden ways women often drive superhero stories forward. What emerges is a portrait of an artist who refuses to lose her sense of play — from anime dubs to blockbuster red carpets — showing that imagination, once protected, can become both survival and success.
