When a paranormal television crew arrives at Dorian Castle to film their ghost-hunting series, things take a deadly turn after one of the hosts is murdered. With suspects, secrets, gambling debts, ghostly clues, and a few romantic complications, Gethsemane and O’Reilly have plenty to untangle. TV Tuesday: All Creatures Great and Small Season 1 Episode 4 "A Tricki Case"

In today’s TV Tuesday, we’re discussing All Creatures Great and Small season 1, episode 4, “A Tricki Case,” where Tricki Woo moves into Skeldale House, Tristan tries to prove he’s capable of taking on more responsibility, and James continues to find himself drawn into Helen Alderson’s world. This episode balances humor, heart, and character growth beautifully. We spend a lot of time with Tristan this week as he struggles to earn Siegfried’s trust, while Siegfried wrestles with the difficult line between being a brother and acting as a father figure. Meanwhile, James gets pulled into another veterinary challenge involving Helen’s champion bull, and we learn a little more about Helen’s relationship with Hugh Hulton. We also see a more vulnerable side of Mrs. Hall as concerns about her son Edward continue weighing heavily on her. While Tricki Woo provides plenty of comedic chaos, this episode quietly explores themes of responsibility, family expectations, forgiveness, and believing in someone’s potential even when they haven’t fully figured themselves out yet. Siegfried clearly sees Tristan’s potential, but his frustration often gets in the way of showing it. Throughout the episode, he compares Tristan to Tricki, to the Prodigal Son, and to every mistake Tristan has ever made. Yet underneath all of that frustration, you can see how deeply he loves him and how badly he wants him to succeed. I also found myself appreciating Mrs. Hall even more this week. Her kindness, patience, and ability to see the best in people continues to make her one of my favorite characters on the show. And of course, James and Helen continue to be adorable. Every interaction feels natural and easy, while Hugh and Helen’s relationship still leaves me with questions. As for Father Brown, I was completely surprised by how much I loved season 1. It blends mystery, humor, faith, and human behavior in a way that feels unique among cozy mysteries. While the themes can sometimes be heavier than expected, the characters and village setting make it incredibly easy to settle into. Read It & Watch It: The Thursday Murder Club

This month on Read It & Watch It, I’m comparing The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman with the 2025 Netflix adaptation. Set in the retirement community of Cooper’s Chase, this story follows four retirees who meet weekly to discuss unsolved crimes. But when a real murder lands on their doorstep, Elizabeth, Joyce, Ron, and Ibrahim find themselves investigating a mystery that becomes far more complicated than any of them expected. This was actually a reread for me, and while I enjoyed spending time with these characters again, I had a very different experience the second time around. The book felt much more complex than I remembered, while the movie streamlined many of the storylines and ultimately became my preferred version. There were so many characters, connections, and moving parts that I often felt like I needed my own detective board just to keep everything straight. The movie, however, made several smart changes. By simplifying the mystery, trimming some of the side plots, and focusing more on the relationships between the members of the Thursday Murder Club, the adaptation gave me a more enjoyable experience overall. Sometimes more details make a story richer. Other times, less really is more. For me, this was one of those rare cases where I preferred the adaptation. TV Tuesday: All Creatures Great and Small Season 1 Episode 3 "Andante"

In today’s TV Tuesday, we’re heading back to the Yorkshire Dales for All Creatures Great and Small season 1, episode 3, titled “Andante”, and I think I’ve officially reached the point where I’m completely invested in this series. This episode expands the world in a way that feels deeper emotionally. We spend more time understanding Siegfried beyond his difficult personality, we see James face one of the hardest moments of his veterinary career so far, and Tristan continues proving why he was such a great addition to the cast. This week really felt like an episode about loyalty, trust, and proving your worth. James is still trying to earn respect from the local community, Tristan is searching for his place within the Farnon family dynamic, and Siegfried is faced with a decision that reveals how much he truly values the people around him. We also get more Helen moments, more countryside comfort, and one of my favorite moments of the season so far involving a certain realization that maybe James still has a chance after all. I think what surprised me most was seeing a different side of Siegfried. Up until now, we’ve mostly seen him as controlling, intense, and difficult. But this week we finally understand a little more about where some of that comes from. Learning about his military experiences and seeing how deeply he cares about animals added another layer to his character. I also loved seeing James and Tristan becoming more like brothers. Tristan brings so much personality and humor into the show, but underneath all of that charm and chaos, we’re starting to see that he really does care about people. And James continues to be someone I want to root for. Watching him face such a difficult decision with Andante was emotional because even when others questioned him, he chose what was best for the animal. Then there was that final Helen moment… Because suddenly James realizes maybe things are not exactly what he thought. And I may or may not have been smiling.
