Mooncake sales surges online: Food Picks Ep 27

Food Picks Ep 27: Mooncake sales surge online  15:00 mins Synopsis: Our podcasters from The Straits Times talk about the best eats and drinks, and what you can bring home or get delivered, during this Covid-19 pandemic.  Money FM's Bernard Lim hosts The Straits Times' food correspondent Eunice Quek as she shares her food picks this week. With large-scale mooncake fairs not happening this year, businesses are seeing a surge in online sales instead, in the lead-up to the Mid-Autumn Festival on Oct 1.  Many purveyors are on multiple online platforms to maximise exposure and sales. They offer a variety of discounts and bundle offers, to stand out in a crowded online marketplace.  Find out about unusual hybrid mooncakes which are trending on social media. These include an Insta-worthy rainbow lapis snowskin mooncake - kueh lapis wrapped in snowskin - from The Lapis Place, and almond sable mooncakes with a soft and chewy mochi centre from Bakery Brera & Fine Foods.  More Food Picks here:  Produced by: Money FM's Bernard Lim & ST's food team Edited by: Bernard Lim & Muhammad Firmann Follow Food Picks Podcast series every Wednesday and rate us on:  Channel: https://str.sg/JWaE Apple Podcasts: https://str.sg/JWaa Spotify: https://str.sg/JWaR Google Podcasts: https://str.sg/JAJH Website: https://str.sg/JAJV Feedback to: podcast@sph.com.sg See omnystudio.com/policies/listener for privacy information.

Home-based food businesses to keep an eye out for: Food Picks Ep 26

Food Picks Ep 26: Home-based food businesses to keep an eye out for 10:57 mins Synopsis: Our podcasters from The Straits Times talk about the best eats and drinks, and what you can bring home or get delivered, during this Covid-19 pandemic. Money FM's Bernard Lim hosts The Straits Times' food editor Tan Hsueh Yun as she shares her food picks this week. Home-based food businesses have been on the rise due to the pandemic, but Blue Spoon's Assam Pedas that uses chicken instead of fish or prawns, really stands out. The dish is punchy, with tangy gravy and a portion size large enough for two. Su Nougat is a gem that is not typically under the radar due to their unique product, nougat. Impressively, their nougats are not stiff and sticky, but soft and not teeth-rottingly sweet. There are several flavours you can choose from, one of which is savoury. Foodie haunts and bar-hopping options along Keong Saik Road: Food Picks Ep 25

Food Picks Ep 25: Foodie haunts and bar-hopping options along Keong Saik Road 8:45 mins Synopsis: Our podcasters from The Straits Times talk about the best eats and drinks, and what you can bring home or get delivered, during this Covid-19 pandemic. Money FM's Bernard Lim hosts The Straits Times' entertainment and nightlife reporter Anjali Raguraman as she shares her food picks this week. Hotel Soloha’s strength as a staycation boutique hotel option lies in its proximity to Keong Saik Road - one of Singapore’s hottest drinks and dining destinations. Besides local favourites like Tong Ah Bakery for kopi and kaya toast, and Kok Sen Restaurant for zi char dishes, the street is also home to everything from African fare at Kafe Utu to modern Indian food at Thevar. The street is also great for a bar hopping itinerary where you can head to the likes of Heart of Darkness brewpub for craft beers from Saigon, or World’s 50 Best Bar, The Old Man.  More Food Picks here:  Produced by: Money FM's Bernard Lim & ST's food team Edited by: Bernard Lim & Penelope Lee Follow Food Picks Podcast series every Wednesday and rate us on:  Channel: https://str.sg/JWaE Apple Podcasts: https://str.sg/JWaa Spotify: https://str.sg/JWaR Google Podcasts: https://str.sg/JAJH Website: https://str.sg/JAJV Feedback to: podcast@sph.com.sg See omnystudio.com/policies/listener for privacy information.

Tasty Nanjing salted duck; handmade dim sum treats; less sweet burnt cheesecake: Food Picks Ep 24

Food Picks Ep 24: Tasty Nanjing salted duck; handmade dim sum treats; Less sweet burnt cheesecake 14:31 mins Synopsis: Our podcasters from The Straits Times talk about the best eats and drinks, and what you can bring home or get delivered, during this Covid-19 pandemic. Money FM's Bernard Lim hosts The Straits Times' STFood Online Hedy Khoo as she shares his food picks this week. Chinese city Nanjing's classic dish of Nanjing Salted Duck is not easily found here, but Nan Jing Restaurant at Hotel Boss serves a version that will satisfy even the most finicky of duck lovers. For old-fashioned handmade dim sum, head for Swee Handmade Pau in Serangoon North Avenue 2. The siew mai here is made with lean pork and fish meat from either yellow-tail fish or mackerel. The meat from the fish helps bind the siew mai filling together. Find out too about newly opened La Pasteleria's range of pastries that are made with less sugar. Try its Signature Burnt Cheesecake which is rich with cheese but is lighter in texture and not cloying.
