As believers, we understand that we should be imitators of God. As the lesson continues on beyond husband-and-wife relationships, God expects His children to submit to one another in reverence to Christ. Children are to obey their parents in the Lord. Fathers are not to exasperate their children but lovingly instruct and discipline them in the things of God. Even as it concerns work, we should do our very best not as unto men, but as unto God. Our lives should reflect a mutual submission to one another and reflect out Lord's humility, love and selfless life.

This portion of Ephesians 5 deals with relationships in particular between husbands and wives. As you can see from verse 21 - God expects us to submit to one another in reverence to Him. So, what follows after this verse shouldn't be surprising! He asks wives to submit to their husbands and husbands to love their wives as Christ loved the Church. We already know that these verses are all in the context of believers within Christian marriages. So, what He's asking is very doable, because He lives in us by His Spirit to empower us to do so. We simply must yield to Him.

God the Holy Spirit comes into our lives once we invite Him to live within us. Our relationship with Christ, grants us access to God's wisdom. He has every answer to every problem we will ever face in this life. We need not walk through life blinded by the darkness around us, we have His light from within to show us the way.

As members of the body of Christ, we are to be imitators of Him. He made the ultimate sacrifice to die for us, so we too must walk away from the darkness He delivered us from.

The Holy Spirit is given to us for empowerment to live lives holy and acceptable to God the Father. He enables us to put off all the trappings of our flesh that keep a wedge between the Father and His children. Holy Spirit is our guarantee that we belong to the family of God and that we will one day be with Him in our forever home - Heaven!
