The podcast delves into the research, which demonstrates that well-managed planted indigenous forest is better at sequestering carbon than commonly considered, and proposes that the Carbon Look-up Tables for the Emission Trading Scheme should include the option for planted native species as well as regenerating native forest. The podcast looks at the role this historically significant research plays in supporting the establishment of native forestry at scale in New Zealand, such as that recommended by the Climate Change Commission of 300,000 ha of new native forest by 2035.
