Episode 10: "This some real Atlanta shit right here."

Dix, Zehn, Tien, Dez, Diez... TEN!  We made it to ten, folks. Might seem like a small feat but as a pair of podcasting infants, we'll take it as a HUGE victory! Thanks to every single one of you listening.  This episode is an interview with Trip Freeman, Atlanta Hip Hop artist from groups RisingSons and W.I.C. (We Invented Cool). As BLKMJKjr he released an album in 2015 called The Invoice which Creative Loafing's Chad Radford deemed "one of those rare albums that actually raises the bar for creativity with a progressive, positive, and funky bent." He lets us into the inspiration behind that album and why it was followed with the contrasting yet equally bold the BLK Drake Mixtape.  Trip is insightful, pops completely off the page and is one of those people that cannot be anything BUT authentic.  Music featured in this episode is available on BLKMJKjr's SoundCloud and Bandcamp (https://blkmjkjr.bandcamp.com/) BLKMJKjr - Outta Gas (ft RisingSons) BLKMJKjr - S.O.S. (ft Gripplyaz & Ben Hameen As Pal Green)  Take a deep dive into Trip's projects, past and present, follow at:  Soundcloud: @blkmjkjr https://www.instagram.com/blkmjkjr/ Soundcloud: @we-invented-cool Soundcloud: @risingsons Connect with us on our things at:  Facebook (www.facebook.com/resonATL/)  Instagram (www.instagram.com/resonatl)  Soundcloud: @ResonATL And we are now on iTunes! Don't Sleep on This - Minisode #2

We are back with our second installment of "Don't Sleep on This" where we share some ATL recommendations that we think are worth mentioning. 1. Creative Loafing's Best of Atlanta Issue - http://www.creativeloafing.com/home/article/20975606/best-of-atlanta-2017 We begin the episode by showing love to our friends that were featured in this year's Best of ATL issue, but also lamenting the fact that CL will no longer be releasing physical issues every week. It's the end of an era, folks. Even though the paper will only be offered on a monthly schedule, they will continue to deliver digital news daily on the website. Take a minute to check out the Best of Atlanta Issue, and show some love to WakeATL, Controllerise, Ruby Velle & The Soulphonics, and everyone who made the list this year! 2. Stax Records 60th! w/ Ruby Velle & The Soulphonics and Friends - https://www.facebook.com/events/128121557812787/ Looking for something to do tomorrow night? On Friday, 9/22, head over to The Vista Room ATL to check out Ruby Velle & The Soulphonics as they join other artists in paying tribute to the legendary Stax Records and their contributions to American soul music. And it was just announced that Heather Hayes, the daughter of soul legend Isaac Hayes was just added to the performance, so get your tickets before it sells out! Check out the event page for more details. 3. Facebook Live Beat Session with Bambu de Asiatic and Ben Hameen - https://www.facebook.com/events/342605232876202/ This Saturday, 9/23, join Collective Efforts' alumni Bambu de Asiatic and (resonATL's own) Ben Hameen for a live beat making session. They will be joined by a live drummer and bassist (and possibly a special guest or two) as they chop samples, loop guitar and keyboard parts, and play around on the production tools for an hour. It starts at 8:00 pm on Facebook Live, so make sure you tune in for that! Go to the link above and click "GOING" to get a reminder. 4. Pea Ridge Restaurant - http://www.pearidgerestaurant.com/ We had the pleasure of trying a new restaurant called Pea Ridge and were absolutely blown away. Their food is locally sourced and made from scratch, and you'll be hard pressed to find a more affordable meal for the caliber of deliciousness they deliver. We tried a pickle plate appetizer, and the house-made potato chips, then moved on to the GA Shrimp & Grits and the N. Carolina Trout Banh Mi... do yourself a favor and stop in here for lunch, or even a date night. You will not be disappointed! 5. Yamin Semali - https://yaminsemali.bandcamp.com/ Yamin Semali has been making moves in Atlanta for quite some time. An incredible producer, rapper and DJ, over the years he has built up an impressive catalog, and his skills just keep getting sharper with experience. Soon to be embarking on a European tour with Cunninglynguists, Yamin decided to release some new music for us: The Hot EP, which will be available on 9/22, but you can pre-order it today. Expect big things from this guy. Go check his bandcamp for music, and while you are at it you can purchase his whole catalog for $25, and get his next full-length for free! That is a steal for all of that great music... so do it, and be sure to support Atlanta musicians and artists, so they can keep doing what they do, making our city shine bright! Episode 9: "It's therapy. It keeps me sane, you know?."

Hurricane Irma was a BEAST ya'll but we worked through the darkness to bring you this interview with Atlanta hip hop artist and Collective Efforts member, Bambu De Asiatic. This episode is a special treat for any artists or hip hop lovers coming up through the 90's.  Bambu is a natural born artist who has always used his music to stand up for the oppressed. His energy is never-wavering through different chapters of his career which he not only takes us through in our interview but also in the soon-to-be-released single "Memory Lane" which is peppered throughout the episode (that's right, we got an EXCLUSIVE sneak peak!)  Another takeaway from this interview besides that Bambu never seems to stop pursuing his dream is that he makes sure that he is always having fun. His advice for balance your art, work and family is simply "You gotta find that time for yourself."  Thank you Bambu for coming on and sharing your music and life story with us!  Make sure to check out his latest LP "Let's Ride" and other albums at:  https://ugsouth.bandcamp.com/ @bambudeasiatic on Soundcloud Follow him on social media:  Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/ugsouth/) Twitter (https://twitter.com/bambudeasiatic) Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/bambudeasiatic/)  Connect with us on our things at:  Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/resonATL/)  Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/resonatl)  Soundcloud: @ResonATL And we are now on iTunes! Episode 8: "It got dark for a bunch of kids."

It's a special birthday and sing-a-long episode for ResonATL! Trigger warning for all those listeners with ears.  Disclaimer: No 80's ballads were actually harmed in the making of this podcast.  On August 21st 2017, Metro Atlantans looked up from their phones to marvel at a rare phenomenon - Ben Hameen enjoying a bourbon on a pub patio. Oh, and the moon pulled cut-sies on the sun. It was quite a sight and hopefully worth giving your first born for a pair of those ISO certified glasses.  On our 8th episode, we reminiscence about seeing the eclipse in our youth and that leads to an impromptu conversation about school standards, unsavory teachers and the infamous cheating scandals in Atlanta Public Schools which are still leaving bitter tastes.  Earlier this summer, it was announced that Brad Pitt's production company, Plan B was working on a feature film called Wrong Answer, starring Michael B. Jordan, which will depict a teacher choosing to participate in altering tests in order to keep his school from being shut down. Many people have mixed feelings about what happened with that case so we are interested to see the reaction from the film.  Below is a link to the article I (Brooksie) read about the incentives for performing in standardized tests.  http://tech.mit.edu/V135/N14/bhandarkar.html Special audio appearance from Bill, Ben's dad, we thank you for giving us a couple of nuggets of insight.  If you are an Atlanta Public School teacher and want to share your experience, hit us up on social media, we'd love to know how this case changed the current school policies our kids and teachers are under today.  Connect with us on our things at:  Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/resonATL/)  Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/resonatl)  Soundcloud: @ResonATL And we are now on iTunes!
