When his adopted parents show up at the playground and Kendall disappears, Lorelei has to decide whether to break her promise and tell her mom that he's homeless or risk losing her best friend forever. Members Reviews: Great book! I read a lot, and am a fairly picky reader. A book has to grab and keep my attention, have an interesting plot, and not repeat the same thing over and over. Playground Treasures was a surprisingly great read! The characters were relateable, likeable (unlikeable for some), and I was deeply invested in their outcome. There's a slight twist at the end that I didn't even see coming, and I'm normally really good at guessing the twists. I could barely put it down! If I had read this book as a pre or early teen, I'm sure it would have been one of my favorites. Overall, it was an enjoyable, heartwarming read! This is a great book! My 9 year old has read it ... This is a great book! My 9 year old has read it several times already. I think it spoke to her. She could picture the school setting and the swings. She read it in 2 days. She had a hard time putting it down. I have also read it. It is very descriptive and reminded me of my school days running around the playground. I will be reading it again. I have been recommending it to others. Great read I enjoyed the story from beginning to end. I really fell for the characters. The description of the playground made you feel as if you were there with them. Great job Jenny! Five Stars I enjoyed it a lot. I really recommend it!! Five Stars Great book!

Portada del episodio History for Kids: A Biography of Harry Houdini for Children Audiobook by Charles River Editors

History for Kids: A Biography of Harry Houdini for Children Audiobook by Charles River Editors

Listen to this audiobook in full for free on http://hotaudiobook.com [http://hotaudiobook.com] Title: History for Kids: A Biography of Harry Houdini for Children Author: Charles River Editors Narrator: Jim D. Johnston Format: Unabridged Length: 28 mins Language: English Release date: 10-25-17 Publisher: Charles River Editors Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 1 votes Genres: Kids, Ages 8-10 Publisher's Summary: "I knew, as everyone knows, that the easiest way to attract a crowd is to let it be known that at a given time and a given place some one is going to attempt something that in the event of failure will mean sudden death. That's what attracts us to the man who paints the flagstaff on the tall building, or to the 'human fly' who scales the walls of the same building." (Harry Houdini) There is no shortage of professional magicians and stuntmen in the 21st century, but all of them owe something to the most famous stuntman of them all, Harry Houdini. A century after he began to thrill audiences with his patented escape acts, Houdini's name remains synonymous with seemingly miraculous escapes and getaways, and his name is instantly recognizable even among those who have never seen pictures of his stunts. Houdini wasn't the first of his kind, but after he got his start as "Harry 'Handcuff' Houdini" during a traveling European tour, he added the kind of showmanship and flair that have become standard fare among performers of his kind. His initial repertoire of escaping handcuffs eventually gave way to far grander feats, involving skyscrapers, straitjackets, and being buried alive. With fame came skepticism, and Houdini was frequently accused of being a fake and fixing his escapes. Some even believed he was helped by supernatural forces. Skeptics were bolstered by the fact that, like his escapes and magic tricks, Houdini remained a man shrouded in mystery, constantly changing his own life story to reinvent himself as he thought fit. Though Houdini insisted his stunts were real and constantly went after those who besmirched him or his profession, his success couldn't help but breed both legends and criticism simultaneously. By the end of his life, Houdini had transformed himself into a national celebrity, and he tried to dabble in acting and other pursuits, but he was destined to be forever associated with the profession he helped pioneer. And fittingly, mystery and controversy surrounded the exact cause of his death, as it had so much of his life. History for Kids: A Biography of Harry Houdini for Children profiles the life, legends, stunts, and controversies of history's most famous escape artist. Your kids will learn about Houdini like never before. Members Reviews: LIFE OF ILLUSION Harry was born Ehrich Weisz in Budapest, Hungary in the year 1874. His father was a trained lawyer who moved to Wisconsin due to discrimination against Jews. Here he became a rabbi moving from congregation to congregation to support his wife and six children. At the age of nine, Ehrich was already putting on magic shows in his backyard, When he was twelve he tried his hand at magic by traveling west. He soon moved back to New York to join his father where he worked as a messenger and factory worker while training and developing his body into that of an athlete. He discovered the French magician Robert Houdin and added an I to his name. For a while Ehrich put on magic shows with his younger brother Theo. Ehrich became Harry Houdini. When he met Bess, he teamed up with her magic card act, and they worked to develop new magic show acts. Harry began developing his escape acts beginning with escaping from a steamer trunk and then handcuffs. The tricks became more and more elaborate.

Portada del episodio Dragon Redeemer Audiobook by Amy Bearce

Dragon Redeemer Audiobook by Amy Bearce

Listen to this audiobook in full for free on http://hotaudiobook.com [http://hotaudiobook.com] Title: Dragon Redeemer Subtitle: World of Aluvia, Book 3 Author: Amy Bearce Narrator: Rebecca Gibel Format: Unabridged Length: 8 hrs and 9 mins Language: English Release date: 09-26-17 Publisher: Tantor Audio Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 1 votes Genres: Kids, Ages 8-10 Publisher's Summary: Four years have passed since a fairy swarm released the voice of prophecy in Nell Brennan. In that painful moment, a skilled warrior became a reluctant leader and defender of Aluvia's magic. Now a new enemy threatens their still-fragile lands, one Nell feels powerless to stop even with help from the voice within her. A mysterious dark alchemist from the Ice-Locked Lands is rising to power on the strength of his sword arm and an ice-breathing dragon obedient to his command. He promises unlimited magic to his followers and death to those who defy him. If he takes over the ports, his corrupt elixirs will disrupt the delicate balance of peace between Aluvia's people and all magical creatures. The voice of prophecy sends Nell and her friends to their enemy's treacherous domain to find a sword of legend. Only the sword's magic can prevent a return to a world of dying fairies and caged merfolk. But Nell's up against the toughest foe she's ever faced. In order to defeat him, she must master the unimaginable power of the sword-and the unwanted magic inside herself. Members Reviews: Best book in the series A satisfying conclusion to the Aluvia trilogy, told from the point of view of the strongest character in the series. Nell is introduced in the first book, Fairy Keeper, in something of an antagonistic role. She serves as a foil for Sierra, with a more aggressive personal style, and a background that makes her a less sympathetic character. Dragon Redeemer explores that background, as well as resolving a thread from Fairy Keeper that transformed Nell in ways she did not understand. I donât want to reveal the details of the story, but suffice to say this is where Nell, a character who began as anything but heroic, finds her heroism. I am sucker for redemption stories, which is part of why I found this to be the most powerful of the three books. This is a worthy conclusion to a great series, from an author who is clearly growing with each book she writes. I very much look forward to her next project. Long Live Aluvia! Loved this third book in the series, possibly the most of all of them, possibly because Nell's always been my fave. Nell 4 EVA! Anyway, as the book opens, Nell's struggling with the role she's found herself in the last few years--acting as an unwilling mouthpiece for a mysterious voice advocating balance among all creatures and proper stewardship of the world (usually at the least opportune of times), and learning herb lore and medicine from her boyfriend Corbin's mother--as a former enforcer, she finds peace and quiet somewhat binding, and realizes that she's actually missing her days of wielding her sword. And then a new danger comes along, threatening to overturn everything she and her friends have been working so hard towards, and her sword might just get some action once again! Only, naturally, that comes with another whole set of problems, and Nell has to figure out who she really is and what she really wants before it destroys her and everything she cares for as well. I love the way Nell interacts with Corbin and Sierra especially, her companions from the first book, and that they have real conflicts with and real respect for one another. I love that they don't always agree with each other, and that they call each other out when needed, and have painful, awkward, real discussions about things.

Portada del episodio Elizabeth and Zenobia Audiobook by Jessica Miller

Elizabeth and Zenobia Audiobook by Jessica Miller

Listen to this audiobook in full for free on http://hotaudiobook.com [http://hotaudiobook.com] Title: Elizabeth and Zenobia Author: Jessica Miller Narrator: Shiromi Arserio Format: Unabridged Length: 4 hrs and 25 mins Language: English Release date: 09-19-17 Publisher: Tantor Audio Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 2 votes Genres: Kids, Ages 8-10 Publisher's Summary: Abandoned by her mother and neglected by her scientist father, timid Elizabeth Murmur has only her fearless friend, Zenobia, for company. And Zenobia's company can be very trying! When Elizabeth's father takes them to live in his family home, Witheringe House, Zenobia becomes obsessed with finding a ghost in the creepy old mansion and forces Elizabeth to hold séances and wander the rooms at night. With Zenobia's constant pushing, Elizabeth investigates the history of the house and learns that it does hold a terrible secret: Her father's younger sister disappeared from the grounds without a trace years ago. Elizabeth and Zenobia is a wonderfully compelling middle-grade story about friendship, courage, and the power of the imagination. PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying reference material will be available in your Library section along with the audio. Members Reviews: It was not my favorite book I didnt really like this book because I felt like the author didnt really have anything to write about at the end. She wrote about plants, plant kings and a plant kingdom. She was creative with her writing which I did like, but I didnt really like the end of the book. When I first chose this book, I thought it was going to be spooky and mysterious, which it was at first. I think that the author took a long time to get to the point of this book. She was creative by the way she talked about a girl trapped in a wall in the Witheringe house because of the plant kingdom that duped her to come into the kingdom. Some parts that I enjoyed where in the beginning of the book, when the author wrote about trying to capture a ghost in the Witheringe house, which is a mansion that has too many rooms to explore. This book also reminded me of The Secret Garden. The author wrote about a dead garden that no one ever visited because of the little girl that went missing after she went into the garden. The garden was dead and had no visitors. At the end of the book it was also very confusing. The book was confusing because you never knew if the plant kingdom was real or all fake. Overall I would give this book a 2.5 out of 5 stars
