Social psychology speaks a lot of the "Bystander Effect' but how much to you observe in silence, before your silence translates as violence in and of itself?The fact that consequences are only being handed out because this incident is on the global stage, tells us everything we need to know about the culture of bullying. It is a culture that is enabled by silence, complacency, and turning a blind eye because of talent and other forms of status.We fail the perpetrators as much as we fail the victim when we let these kinds of violent behaviours go unchecked.Let's not pretend that this is something local to South Africa.
