Shame Off You

This week Pastor Kim May finishes out or God is Relational series by looking at shame, and our response to others struggles.  How many of us are carrying shame that God never intended us to bear? This week at New Wine, we explored a powerful truth: God's way is not "shame on you," it's "shame off you." Looking at the stories of Noah and the woman caught in adultery, we discovered the difference between exposing someone's failures and covering them with love, honor, and grace. While shame says, "You are a failure"  God's love says, "You are forgiven, valued, and deeply loved." Jesus never ignored sin, but He refused to define people by it. He removed condemnation and restored dignity. What if the question isn't, "Am I right?" but instead, "Am I love?" As followers of Christ, we're called to honor one another, forgive freely, and refuse to expose the weaknesses of others. We are called to be a people who declare: "Shame off you." The Fellowship of Suffering

We spend much of our lives trying to avoid suffering. We numb it. Distract ourselves from it. Build coping mechanisms around it. Anything to keep from feeling the weight of what hurts. But what if God is waiting for us there? In the final week of our God Is Relational series, Pastor Matt explores the fellowship of suffering through Philippians 3:8-10. Paul tells us that knowing Christ means not only experiencing the power of His resurrection, but also sharing in His sufferings. The truth is, suffering reveals what is really inside of us. When pressure comes, when life squeezes us, who do we become? When Jesus was pressed, we saw love. We saw life. We saw blood and water poured out for the healing of the world. We may be victims of what has happened to us, but we do not have to live with a victim mentality.  As followers of the suffering servant, we are invited to meet God in the very places we would rather avoid. Because sometimes the deepest healing, the greatest freedom, and the most intimate encounters with God are found on the other side of leaning into the pain instead of running from it. You Are Not A Grasshopper
