Researchers say the conflict is not driven by a lack of food. The park contains abundant fruiting trees and resources. Instead, they believe space and group size may be contributing factors. “Over time, I think probably something to do with the community grew so large that they weren’t able to hold it together anymore as one cohesive chimpanzee community,” said Kevin Langergraber, a professor at Arizona State University who has studied the group for more than 20 years.
