Growing up in the Philippines, nobody taught me about 401(k)s, Roth IRAs, investing, life insurance, or building wealth. Like many immigrant families, we were simply trying to survive and make the most of what we had. Now, as a wife, mother of three boys, nurse, and entrepreneur, I've found myself thinking deeply about the future—retirement, college savings, financial stewardship, and the legacy I want to leave behind. But during that journey, I realized something surprising. The most valuable asset I have isn't money. It's time. In this heartfelt episode, I share lessons from my childhood, the immigrant experience, parenting, financial stewardship, healing childhood wounds, and why creating memories with our children may be one of the greatest investments we can ever make. But what happens when some of the things we normalized growing up quietly shaped us in painful ways? In this heartfelt episode of Rise Tayo, we explore the hidden wounds many Filipino adults may still carry from childhood—not to blame our parents or criticize our culture, but to bring awareness, healing, and hope.
