SCOTUS Asylum Decision & America 200 vs America 250

In this episode we discuss the SCOTUS asylum decision and compare President Ford's America 200 speech with President Trump's upcoming America 250 rhetoric. SCOTUS RULING: At least 250,000 Haitians and 60,000 Syrians who are in the United States legally just lost their Temporary Protected Status a few days ago after the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) ruled that the Trump administration can end that legal status and deport these individuals who are in the process of receiving asylum. Most of the Haitians under this plan moved to the US after the devastating 2010 earthquake which killed hundreds of thousands of people and destroyed the nation's infrastructure and disrupted the lives of 12 million Haitians. Most of the Syrians moved after the 2013 Civil War which displaced millions of Syrians and killed over 100,000 mostly civilians. History Lesson: Nixon's Memorandum of Understanding with Syria's Hafez Assad

Today is the 54th anniversary of the June 17, 1972 Watergate break-in that brought the Nixon presidency down. This week is also the occasion of the first ever American presidential visit to Syria. Two months before he resigned, Nixon tried to salvage his presidency by showcasing Kissinger's deal between Syria and Israel: the May 1974 Disengagement Agreement that installed a UN-mediated demilitarized zone as a placeholder for peace in the Middle East. The Assad men, both Hafez and his son Bashar, honored this agreement for 50 years, but just like Trump's MOU with the Islamic Republic of Iran this week, it came with enormous financial benefits.
