Pete and Trevor saw two of the greatest horror sci-fi movies ever made. We did a double-header of David Cronenberg’s The Fly (1986) and John Carpenter’s The Thing (1982). It’s Jeff Goldblum versus Kurt Russell, Brundlefly versus The Thing from Another World, in an epic showdown of body horror, special effects, and possibly the best use of makeup ever. Listen in for our immediate reaction to these two classics. This is also week three of our ongoing project to watch every Aardman feature and short film. This week we are talking ‘Chicken Run’, Aardman’s first feature, directed by Nick Park and Peter Lord. Pete and Trevor sat at home with a pot of tea, some crackers, and of course CHEESE (and yes, it was Yorkshire Wensleydale), and watched Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl. Nick Park is back, along with Merlin Crossingham, directing only the second W&G feature film. Listen to the podcast to hear our immediate reactions to the film (giving plenty of warning before getting into spoilers). This is also week two of our ongoing project to watch every Aardman feature and short film. As luck would have it, we watched the Aardman Shorts from 1990-1995, which included ‘A Close Shave’, and ‘The Wrong Trousers’, featuring that dastardly nefarious penguin Feathers McGraw. We encourage everyone to watch along with us and check in each episode for our dedicated Aardman segment. Go to https://boxd.it/BQYVu [https://boxd.it/BQYVu] for the watchlist for January. Pete and Trevor drove right into the open arms of death itself, and its name is Nosferatu (not Dracula). Robert Eggers has had an incredible start to his directing career, but Nosferatu was the movie he was born to make. Starring Lily-Rose Depp, Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Willem Dafoe, with Bill Skarsgård as the gross old vampire himself, Nosferatu is a triumph of atmosphere, cinematography, and performance. Listen to the podcast to hear our immediate reactions to the film after leaving the theatre (giving plenty of warning before getting into spoilers).
