Homeric Hymns Dionysus

In which the birthplace of the god Dionysus is spoken of with reverence, credited variously to distant lands and secret mountains, yet always shrouded in divine mystery beyond mortal knowledge. The hymn honours him as the lord of ecstatic inspiration and solemn feasts, invoking his favour and celebrating his sacred bond with his mother Semele.

The Iliad Book 24

The Iliad Book 22

In which the mighty Hector stands firm outside the walls of Troy, resisting beseeching pleas to retreat, as he faces the swift and indomitable Achilles in a fateful pursuit watched by gods and mortals alike. After a fierce encounter, Hector’s life is taken and his body dishonoured, stirring grief and lamentation within the city as the sorrowful mourners contemplate the cruel toll of war and the fragile fate of his orphaned child.
